Took some time this afternoon to speak on Doc Walker's show.

SportsTalk 980 - Washington, DC (http://www.wtem.com/cc-common/podcast.html)

Here are some highlights

-Had Calais Campbell rated lower than he was drafted. Went to combine at 290. Feeling was that he had to drop to 270 to play DE or beef up to about 320 to DT.

-Mario Manningham was not on draft board. When you have a good locker room, bring good guys into the locker room. Wanted to keep the locker room strong

-Don't miss an all-new Lost, Thursday night at 10p EST on ABC

-VC spent 9 years in San Fran and it's the same offense that we're running now. Has a good feel for what the offense and Jim Zorn needs (personnel wise)

-Doc Walker excited about DE Alonzo Dotson (I keep hearing this guy's a beast, but I know nothing about him really)

-Drink. Responsibly.

-VC says of the 13 free agents, 4 were still on draft board

-VC says they worked out Dotson last week when they went to work out Kelly. Says Dotson is an athletic guy, but not a real physical guy

-Rinehart got a 35 on the Wonderlic, plays with a mean streak. Has "nasty intelligence" Bugel will try him out at Guard, Center, Tackle this week

-Guys like Howard, Westbrook, Gardner came in as high #1 picks and walked around like BMOC. Thomas, Davis, and Kelly are upset they weren't first rounders and are coming in with a chip on their shoulder

-Great posts this week Slingin Sammy 33

-Statistically, history shows you get more production/Pro Bowls out of 2nd round receivers than 1st round (don't know exactly where he got this from)

-Would have loved for one of the DL to drop to #21, but that wasn't the case (mentioned Golston and Derrick Harvey. I imagine he meant Dorsey, not Golston). But we knew they weren't going to be there

-What happens then is when is you get into the 4th round and you're looking at some of the linemen on the board and you've got your D Coordinator sitting there saying "We have that guy. That's Alex Buzbee. We don't need to draft that. Take another position."

-Where my Warpath Mods at. Holla!

-In late rounds you take guys that the position coach has a conviction about and wants to invest time in and coach. That was the case with Colt Brennan (Zorn) and Rob Jackson (Palermo). Same thing that happened a couple of years ago with Blache and Golston/Montgomery

-Clinton Portis has been at the facilities this offseason working out more than he has the past 3 seasons combined

-Santana's been there, Samuels, Campbell

-Shawn Springs has been working out in Arizona. Did the same last year and played 16 strong games last year. Team's philosophy is if you show you can get in shape and get the work done, doesn't matter where.

Ahh of course. Yeah he said Kedrick Golston and I know he had said Dorsey was #1 on their draft board so I assumed...

looks like they wanted the same guys i did... harvey and laws :/. merling would have been great in the top of the second, but they had devin above him anyways.

I think i would have preferred if other teams took other players so we could get merling and laws by default, but the shotgun approach in rounds 2 and 3 is actually a valid method... denver picked 3-4 CBs in the 3rd round a few years back and ended up with a starter and a nickel guy out of the deal, so it can work. at least you have some safety in numbers.

We took what we perceived to be the best talent we could get. Long term this should be the best draft we've had in years if our evaluation is any good. We clearly went talent over need. I think we're going to be big fans of this draft in 3 years.

many good teams draft like this, veterans will not be there forever, so when rookies mature years down the road they can seamlessly step in. i am happy with this draft. ARE and moss, as much as people loved them, did not have good seasons last year. we did very well to improve our passing game

I really like the sound of this. There's still a small sliver of me that wishes one of those second round picks was another guard or tackle. Oh well.

If Thomas and Kelly turn out to be a knockout WR tandem for the future, all will be right with the world.

I don't know if it's a typo, but if it's not it's interesting to note that on the Redskins roster page they have Alonzo Dotson listed as an offensive lineman
