Maybe my expectations are lowered, since this is the first year in a LONG time we are working with a legitimate number of draft picks. In past years, 2-3 players in a draft sticking around past their rookie contract was an excellent draft for the Skins. I'm pretty confident that we'll get at least that out of this class. However, we had 3-4 extra picks this year, so perhaps my expectations should be higher. This is all so foreign to me.

I am also impressed with the way Vinny handled the draft. I think the movement in both the 2nd and 5th rounds were good moves for us. I do believe that we will make some type of after June 1 move to get depth on the DL and the OL.

IF, the OL can stay healthy in total, this offense will be EXPLOSIVE!

I'm not that big a fan of VC the person, but I've always thought he's pretty good at what he does. And I can't state enough how critical Scott Campbell is to the whole process. I know I've been pimping him for a while now, but dude knows his sh*t.

I think most of the criticism directed toward the Redskins in the past has been "They pick good players...so why don't they pick more often?" Which is valid.

This year we addressed several, but not all, needs. There still is the undrafted free agency period and June 1 cuts of course.

I feel that's a fair criticism of me, but again, when I see the potential for a great draft, and all we can do is fill a mid level need for the future with it, I'm (naturally) going to be disappointed.

I mean, there's the train of thought that you filled a critical need cheaply, but you have to ask yourself if the need was actually filled, and at what cost. Yes, the "red zone weapons" need was filled, but it cost THREE second round draft picks. Was the red zone weapons need worth three second round draft picks? A rational person would say no.

I think who we didn't draft is a very critical factor in evaluating a draft. If it wasn't, no one would every have a bad draft. I'm not advocating hindsight three years from now if Calais Campbell becomes an all-pro. That's pretty pointless. I'm looking at a roster that is seven deep with competent receivers, and I'm just thinking to myself, as we all should be:

"If Santana Moss gets back on track this year, where are we going to play him? If Randle El continues to play well, where are we going to play him?"

Fact: Wide Receivers and Tight Ends don't have the impact on the game to make the offense score ten more points per game than it did last season. People don't have any clue what they are talking about. That's just not the way things work.

What we didn't do was add any significant help for a front seven that is starting 4 players over the age of thirty, and a 5th next year when Andre Carter hits 30. That matters. It really does.

Yes, we can address those needs next year, but do you have any confidence that we will?

Don't worry Calais Campbell won't be a pro bowler.

Smootsmack - I think this is the biggest issue I have with the Skins. I have bashed Cerrato before, but this draft went well in my opinion and if they did what they did this year going forward I would be pretty happy as far as attempting to acquire more picks by trading down.

What still worries me is I read a lot of reports that said the Skins were trying to trade multiple picks for Chad Johnson , Boldin or Williams. While all 3 receivers have good production, I really wish the Skins would get away from trying to unload their picks by acquiring high profile players. While many of you will argue that any of these 3 guys will solve the passing problems of our offense, I would think you really can't defend that all 3 of these players would put a major strain on our salary cap situation. So thank goodness the Bengals, Lions and Cardinals saved the Redskins from themselves and refused to trade. I am glad the Skins decided not to trade away their picks and instead roll the dice on some recievers I think will do pretty well and for a heck of a lot less than these other 3 will cost.

building a team does not end in draft picks. it will continue as the OTA and camps goes. maybe calais campbell will be a camp cut and then we can sign him.

<<I'm getting the vibe that people are very willing right now to throw out the possibility that this draft might not look as good in three years as it does right now.>>

Three years? Wait three months...most of these guys will not make the team. My two cents...but I realize I am in the minority.

Also you assume a lot less risk with 3 players as opposed to 1. If 1 of the 3 gets injured you still have 2 able bodies to maintain their position.

If that 1 player gets hurt that position is now a liability. I'm glad the football gods smiled upon us and let us keep our draft picks.

Hail to the Redskins

I think unfortunately what's reported is inaccurate. Better said, incomplete. The real story is that they were exploring multiple options to do what was best for their team. And they identified early on that improving the WR position was best for the team. So they looked at drafting one in the first round, trading down to pick up a WR later and pick up draft choices, discussing various trade options for established veterans. It's just like every other team did (should have done) throughout the past several weeks. But the sexy story is "multiple picks offered for Chad Johnson." It just doesn't tell the whole story.

What crack are you smoking? You're happy because some dipshit says the Redskins had a good draft? How about 10 picks and MAYBE one guy makes the roster? This will go down as one of the worst drafts in Redskins history. Wait until September and see how many of these losers make the roster...it will be one. And don't even get me started on drafting a punter that no one wanted. We could have signed him as a FA for nuttin. Cerrato is an idiot. Get rid of him asap.

Fun to watch? I can't wait until next January when Cerrato and everyone else gets fired. Cerrato just wasted 10 picks on a bunch of losers. That may very well go down as the worst draft for a team...

Re: Overall Draft Grade for the Redskins

F minus minus. I will elaborate on why grim4coach says vinnie and danny are retarded:

1) We took two identical WR's. Kelly is slow as molasses...4.78 40? DE's had better times.
2) We have a Pro...

Dude from reading your recent posts all I can say is you are a complete bitch.
