That's exactly how teams get in trouble. If you only draft for need you'll end up taking a guy that's not highly regarded. Let's take Calais Campbell for example. Even though he's still on the board when we drafted TE Fred Davis, you have to trust that our coaches and scouts were pretty sure that his value wasn't good or as good at that point in the draft. What that really means is yes, we need DL help but, we can't draft Calais Campbell this high because we've checked him out thouroughly and feel that he doesn't have the tools to be drafted at this point. Later? Yes. Now? No. You see all the time how the best teams (teams who are better building through the draft) draft guys who seem to be reaches but actually fit well into what a team does.
As far as Moore goes. He's projects to be as good as Vernon Fox with some upside.
I've always had questions about BPA. What if you end up with nothing but positions you don't need? I mean suppose the Redskins originally planned to take Campbell at 51? If they could have gotten him at 48 and still gotten Davis or Kelly wouldn't it have been worth it?
RMSkins 04-28-2008, 04:14 PM I don't really know college football, so I've got a lot of questions about all these guys. Is the claim he could push for the starting job a compliment to him or a criticism for Doughty?
I would definitely call it a compliment. Doughty, although unspectacular, is a solid safety, but I think Kareem Moore and Chris Horton are going to give him a run for his money for the starting SS position.

I hope so, I like Doughty and I'm sure he could be a decent starter but he just doesen't have the skill sets needed to excel past mediocrity. He's a great special teams player, not a great starter.

The Redskins were idiots on the second day. They passed up Josh Barrett who will be the best safety out of this draft class in years to come. Book it. He has alot of potential and its unbelievable that the Broncos came away with this kid in the 7th round. I'm dissapointed.. 6'2, 225 pounds, 4.34 speed, and decent coverage skills at the SS position. He'll learn alot from Denver's secondary, and it's a shame when Laron Landry could have been teaching him.

I liked Josh Barrett as well, and I was surprised to see him drop so far. I thought for sure he was a 4th or 5th round pick. With that being said there was a reason why he dropped, I know he had a bad injury his senior year, and his coverage skills aren't that great. Not exactly sure why he dropped, but it must have been something pretty significant that scared many teams off.
GMScud 04-28-2008, 09:44 PM i have watched kareem moore S from nicholls state ... Good charatcher Guy hard hitter ( he can lay the wood) i have wacthed him play he sign with OLE Miss for 2years and transfered to nicholls state. Sean taylor is his favorite player and the redskins are his favorite team so look for good things from Kareem they call him K-Mo Savage (he a beast) Doughtery watch yo back
Welcome to the board. I didn't know he was a skins fan, a Sean Taylor fan, and had such a cool nickname. Very cool. I imagine he'll do little more than be a solid special teams contributor at first, but hopefully he'll pan out as a regular down player. I also heard he's a hard hitter, plus he has good measurements for a safety. Coming from a small school like Nicholls State, it'll probably take him some time to adjust to NFL speed, but I'm optimistic about him.
EXoffender 04-29-2008, 10:14 AM I like this pick. Our DBs our looking good depth wise. It looks like Landry will still play FS though if Horton doesn't have the recovery speed.
SmootSmack 04-30-2008, 09:47 PM He may be placed on IR this year. He's apparently undergoing knee surgery this week. I don't really know the details

Really, where did you hear this from? If this is the case it would be kind of odd that we would draft a player that may not even be able to play this year.
SmootSmack 05-01-2008, 12:33 AM There must be a link somewhere perhaps. I'll see if I can find one. Hold on a second
