Rosenhaus Pleads With Cincy To Trade Johnson

I still don't understand why Cincy didn't trade him. Because their super bowl candidacy this season rides heavily on a career year from their Quarterback, and one of the easiest ways to ensure that your quarterback will struggle in the short term is to take away his top target.

They don't need Chad Johnson to be happy, but they do need him on the field.

you really are living in fantasy land. with Johnson it is about one thing, and that one thing is money. the guy could give 2 shits about winning. he proved that a couple of seasons ago. the Bengals were a playoff team, with a great offense. and all he was worried about was getting paid. so don't give me that line of shit about him wanting to windmek, didn't you also accuse Dan Marino of not wanting to win?

Where's the line here, and what gives you insight into which professionals are in it for the money and which others are in it for the glory of victory. Aren't both of those things somewhat selfish in their own manner?

Johnson has taken a lot of crap from the media, but whereas Javon Walker, Lance Briggs, and Jake Plummer tried to burn their bridges in order to force a trade, Johnson simply made his desires public, and let the Bengals decide where he would play in 2008. Distraction or not, that is the proper way to go about it, and I don't think this will be an issue again until next offseason.

If the Bengals do have a bounceback season, like many expect, seems like he will be very happy playing out the rest of his career in Cinci.

gtripp, while i respect your opinion, i disagree. do you think Johnson would have any problem getting traded to the redskins? i don't think so. realistically, as much as i hate to admit it, the skins are a long shot to win it all. with a salary cap, its hard for ALL the players on winning teams to get paid. its just one of the issues that come with winning. just 2 short years ago, the Bengals renegotiated his contract. he was a top dollar receiver then. are they supposed to open up his contract every time some other wide out makes more then him? no team can operated successfully like that. i be willing to guess that he would play on just about any team that was willing to pay him. just my opinion

If he tells the Bengals "I don't want to play for you guys anymore", and the Bengals say "Fine, you're a Redskin now", I think Johnson would be very happy with the new opportunity.

Perception is this: we were a playoff team this year, and the Bengals weren't. So he'd probably think we have a better shot with him than the Bengals do. Plus, he probably thinks that the Bengals are losing in spite of his efforts (probably not totally off) and that the Redskins would be much improved with him.

In reality, I think Cincinnati's chances at winning the SB are just as good as ours this year if not better, but that's really not what Chad thinks.

I don't think this is really about the money, though generally a new contract comes with a trade, so its probably a minor factor in his desire to be traded.

I totally agree with you that the Bengals are correct to hold their ground. They should try to trade Chad Johnson when it's time to rebuild. The Bengals should not be rebuilding yet, they should be trying to find a solution for their pass defense so they can make a run in a weak division.

But I don't think Chad is particularly unhappy with his deal, at least any more so than the next guy.

Chad is an Bengles for life IMO. Their is no other way for the Bengles to put it like that . I like the Bengles but when we play them i'm gonna spit at them.

This seems kind of ironic coming from someone who, if I'm not mistaken, said Devin Thomas was only interested in the money when he left Michigan State early, not in getting any better.
