If we could pull off that trade and get Jason Taylor, I'd pull the trigger...but the Dolphins would be dumb to do that trade. They would only be a temporary plus with that first pick...they would be dropping down in the 3rd. It's a great deal for us, and a steal if we could afford his 8 mil salary.

Well the trade I projected wouldn't involve Jason Taylor. Right now the Dolphins are using Taylor as a means to get back into the 1st round to take a player that they feel might not fall to the second. And as Schneed said, Jason Taylor is a cap nightmare.

Dolphins get:
Redskins 1-21
Redskins 3-21

Redskins get:
Dolphins 2-1
Dolphins 3-1

Redskins would be able to bring in a draft class with Jordy Nelson, Duane Brown, and Charles Godfrey. Of course they would have to find a productive D-Lineman with their comp pick, but I think we'll be fine as long as the LB's come to play.

By the chart that trade would favor the Dolphins by 105 points. They would have to add their 4th to make it work by the chart, and to make it makes sense for the Skins IMO.

Yeah, but you're talking straight draft numbers, you're not taking into account a possible hall of famer DE.

I think Defensive End is an area where we should bring a talented young player to groom, since we already have a very good player at that position in Andre Carter. Last year the pundits stated that we needed to get a top defensive lineman in the draft, we didn't, and our d-line did a good job this past season. Unlike the WR position, for us it is worth drafting a good DE or DT with our first round pick, instead of trading it for a proven veteran.

Is he the Dancing With the Stars guy? I'm not sure I could handle that. Maybe Dallas is interested?

Jason Taylor is an impact player. He would make a difference for a season or two, but I don't see him being here long enough to trade a 1st rounder for. I get the old Bruce Smith feeling with him. I know he's not old-old, but he is getting old.

It just depends on what we give up. If we are getting Taylor but only moving down 12 spots, that's a deal. If we lose the first round pick, then our next pick is OUR 2nd round pick, then I would agree. He doesn't have much left in the tank.
In case you haven't noticed, this guy has 36.5 sacks in his last 3 seasons and 77 sacks in his last 6 seasons...also, he has 139 tackles, 3 int's and 3 tds the past 3 seasons. He's more than just a DE, he's a run stuffer and an all around great player.

FYI, there has been some comments about the similarity to Bruce Smith, well when we got Smith, he was 37. Taylor will be 34 this year. When Smith was 34 and 35, he had 14 and 10 sacks respectively. So there is no reason we couldn't be pleased with Taylor's performance over the next 2 years. Taylor's got enough in the tank to get us 10+ sacks over the next two years, and we all know we haven't had good pass rushers over the years and we were thrilled by Carter's performance last year.
I do not know the specifics of Taylor's contract, but I have no doubt he would restructure with us if a deal was struck.

And neither was Dirtbag. He said the trade did not involve Jason Taylor, and as others have mentioned we could not absorb Taylor's cap hit. So you are dallying in the fantastic.

If we could make the deal to just go down a couple of picks and get Jason Taylor you do it. Unlike these other hypothetical trade options who have character issues, Taylor is a model citizen and would be good in the locker room. Not to mention that he is a couple of years removed from being an defensive MVP or in the running. This is the guy you take a chance on...As far as the age and declining numbers...anyone playing on a bad team like last years dolphins would have numbers declining. A change of scenery would do this very good player some good. I use to live in So. Florida and there is not a good atmosphere there for success. The fans stink! Nothing like the Skins! He would be energized and would not be the main focus on the line as he was in Miami!

Now don't get it twisted...!!! Don't sell the farm and give away the draft but try to fit him in...then get a DE late or next year in order for the young player to have a mentor and learn slowly...I hate to say it look at the Giants.

Under those circumstances he could be productive for longer than 3 years by rotating with Young DE.

Just my opinion!

I'm not following you...this is what you wrote:

So in other words you want Taylor for free for it to make sense to you?

About Taylor's "cap hit", well, the Dolphins have to absorb his actual "hit", we would absob his contract which I have no doubt will be restructured to make it worth it for us. Otherwise there is no point. 8 mil is too much for us to take, and I'm sure the Skins see this as well. People can say what they want about us getting too FA's over the years etc, but no team is better than we are at restructuring and dodging salary cap issues.

I'm not saying "go get him", I'm saying if we would trade our 21st pick, for their 1st pick in the 2nd, then that's a deal assuming we restructure him.
