I'd give up this years first for Boldin. Done deal. Maybe even throw in a late rounder...5-7th round pick. Proven talent, young, and what we need. We wouldn't be mortgaging our future either. If you take a WR at #21 it's hit or miss. Almost 50/50 chance he's be productive.

I agree with this. Drafting WRs (or any player for that matter) is a risky proposition. These guys have all proven that they can play serious WR in the NFL. It does not surprise me at all that the teams in question turned us down.

I think Boldin would be a great compliment to the small fast WRs we have. But I would be shocked if the Cards give him up.

Should we change the title of the thread to something like "Cardinals turned down Redskins offer for Boldin"?

It all depends on where you think the team is right now. Are they one good player away from being a legit SB contender. Some say yes. I think that with the new coach and new system there is a good chance we take a step back this year. This isn't the year that we need to go after that one player that can push us over the top if it means sacrificing the chance to build more depth in post ions that desperately need it (OL, DL, CB).

I couldn't have said it better. But think of all the $$ Dan-o would make off of ocho cinco jerseys!! A 21st pick rookie won't sell nearly as much.

This is true

I'd love to see what some these GM's and coaches that are turning down the Redskins were like when their girlfriends tried to break up with them before they got married.

"Mike it's over, I'm sleeping with your best friend. I want to see other people"

"NO! I'm going to stick to my guns. It'll take two people to end this relationship and right now you only have one."

I probably could have come up with a better joke but I'm out of ideas for now.

I would definitely take Boldin over Johnson and Williams.

link on the boldin ESPN article?

I think you have to take the whole Boldin thing in with a grain of salt:
1) He is not much younger than Chad at 27 (2 years and change) so the complaint about Chad's year count is either totally overblown or should be applied partially towards boldin too. And I'll take Chad's consistency and durability over that 2 yr difference with boldin

2) Boldin has had some injury concerns and the last thing we need is an injury prone player on our roster. Just another chance at an offseason hypothetical, leaving us scratching our heads, asking what if so-and-so was healthy.

3) Boldin's numbers are padded by the fact that he played in the pass happy NFC West. When you play in high scoring games against SF, St Louis and Seattle, especially when your team is down by a large margin and has to pass, your WR's are gonna get the stats. Also, the DB's probably aren't as good as in Chad's AFC North (with Pittsburgh and Baltimore).

4) Boldin had the benefit of Fitzgerald taking away a lot of the attention and it probably suited for the #2 role on any team. 85 on the other hand was almost always doubled and was always treated as the #1 threat on the field.

5) Boldin has never really played in big (NFL) game situations. He has no playoff experience and typically his teams have finished well under .500. Arizona is a pretty tame NFL state where little pressure is put on that team to perform. Who knows how he will deal with big city pressure and expectations, especially in a media market like DC?

point 3 and 4 bunk, he was the only WR his first year and still got a hair away from 1400, which is better than i've seen a WR do here in just about forever. he a LEGIT #1! he's DEFINITELY better than santana and he has less injury problems as far as games affected (santanna's hammy's just linger forever). though the point about injury concerns are totally valid.

point 5 is bull, i mean, no offense, but that's a stupid arguement. if matt hasslebeck played in dc, he'd be loved by the fans, cause HE CAN PLAY. boldin would be in the same situation.

I'd prefer him over CJ because of the age factor. But it's just going to cost too much and he's going to want a deal near what Fitzgerald got. Plus he's injury prone.

I hate to keep repeating myself but why can't we draft a guy like Boldin in the 3rd or 4th round?

why can't we win the lottery every day?

boldin was a 2nd rounder i believe (but colston was a 7th rounder, and there's jerry rice)

it's just not that easy.

yeah I agree, #5 is really stretching it.

He played at Florida St., did he not play any big games there??
