Skinny Tee 04-17-2008, 11:07 PM I know we've discussed him before. But with new information, I figured it was best to start a new thread. The Redskins don't appear to be players in these sweepstakes, but should they be? He won't come cheap.
FOX Sports on MSN - NFL - Chiefs' Allen talking with Vikings, Bucs (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8043460/Chiefs)
oooooooh....I likes this!
I haven't read the article yet but I like the sound of Allen being available. Although I don't want to touch this draft at all to do try to acquire him I wouldn't mind listening to some trade numbers.
Ruhskins 04-18-2008, 01:47 AM Can you imagine the D-line in Minnesota if they get him?!?! Talk about a force.
I'd love him in the B&G but I don't see it happening now.
Too bad the Vikings don't have a QB, so they will be once again a team with a great defense and a below average offense (I would call it a terrible offense, if Adrian Peterson wasn't there).
Allen would be expensive, and we would def have to give up our first rounder...but I don't know...would we give up a 1st rd pick and a later round from next year? This is a tough one. Maybe our 1st rd and Ladell? (give the Chefs a solid back up for Larry Johnson, who carries the ball like 50 times)

No way, I don't want Redskins to trade Betts ever - he chose to sign with us instead of going to market for big money.. And we express our gratitude by trading him away? And beside as much I love CP, but his history show he can get injured easily..
SmootSmack 04-18-2008, 10:01 AM Well apparently the Chiefs are asking for a 1st and 2nd (the Vikings supposedly have offered a 1st and 3rd)
KLHJ2 04-18-2008, 10:12 AM In a fantasy world who wouldn't mind having him (as long as he cuts the mullet, with the fam; that way we can come outta the back room crackin up.)? In reality we have too many needs to give up 2 picks for one guy (unless that guy is Chad Johnson).
Now many of you may be wondering why I would give up two picks for CJ and not for JA. It's simple, the game is determined by how many points are put on the scoreboard, not how many sacks are put on the QB. The defensive line is a need, but the offense is a need as a whole.
hail_2_da_skins 04-18-2008, 10:53 AM Allen is a good player, but two first round draft picks is too much.
Ade Jimoh Fan Club 04-18-2008, 10:55 AM The Vikings spent a first round pick on a DE two-consecutive years to get Kenichi Udeze and Erasmus James. While neither is a "bust", they're obviously not taking care of business if the Vikings are willing to give up a 1st & 3rd pick to get Allen.
What I'm getting at is draft picks (especially in the 20's) are never a sure thing. Jared Allen IS. There is no debate he is one of the best in the league, and is only 25.
So, our options are to give up a 1st and 3rd (or 2nd) to get a guaranteed stud, or we could take our chances on a Merling or Thomas or the like (who only had 1 standout season in college - fluke?).
I'm all for building through the draft, but it's a lot like gambling. You can bet on the favorite and know that you're likely going to win, or you can bet on the longshot and if it works if you're a genious and if it doesn't (and this is a likely possibility) then you've wasted your money.
I like the sure thing.
Granted, I'm not saying we should drink silly juice and put forth a rediculously one-sided offer (a la the Champ Bailey trade), but if we can make sense of it, let's do it.

So what happens if Jared Allen turns out to be a system guy (I'm not saying he will)? Even signing a FA is risky. Not even they are sure things.
Remember Bryce Paup. One hit wonder.
SmootSmack 04-18-2008, 11:12 AM Well Udeze has leukemia and James has had 3 knee surgeries in the past year so neither should be counted for 2008, at least. Trading draft picks for Jared Allen probably won't be too difficult. It's shelling out the $80+ million over 6 years that he reportedly wants.

Mr. SmootSmack,
(As usual) your points are very valid - and indisputable. I agree that we shouldn't overpay/trade for the guy. Hopefully, Danny has figured that out by now, right?!
Respectfully,
THE ADE
