Randle El live chat on ESPN right nowMTK 04-17-2008, 02:03 PM ESPN: Chat with Antwaan Randle El - SportsNation (http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=20083) MTK 04-17-2008, 02:09 PM I've gotten in 2 questions so far: Matt, NY: ARE, can you talk about Jason Campbell for a moment? How do you see him progressing under Coach Zorn? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: (1:06 PM ET ) His progress was great last year. I expect him to be much better than last year. With his foot work, his completion percentage should be higher and his decision making. Matt, NY: How does the new offense look so far on paper? Can we expect a more wide open attack this year? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: (1:07 PM ET ) Much more wide open. We won't be as held back or handcuffed as much. As we know Coach Gibbs was very conservative. It will be more uptempo and wide spread. Joe Ribbs BBQ 04-17-2008, 02:14 PM this guy is a class act.... matty, your alright yourself, good questions by the way hooskins 04-17-2008, 02:16 PM It wont let me log onto the site anymore because it is insider only. hooskins 04-17-2008, 02:17 PM Matty if you see any questions asked by someone in Chantilly VA could you please post it? That would be me and I can't get onto the page. MTK 04-17-2008, 02:18 PM Chris (CT): Antwaan, what can you tell me about Jim Zorn so far? How is the team transitioning to all the new changes? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: He's a man of God, first and foremost. He's a great QB coach. I think he'll be a great head coach. It's just a matter of time and the team is behind him. SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: The team loves the change. We'll probably open it up on offense. The defense will still be good. Expect a good season. Mowser; Pittsburgh,PA: Are you following your old Pittsburgh town NHL Penguins in their playoff run? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Negative. I don't follow hockey that much. Maybe the Blackhawks, coming from Chicago. Indianapolis, IN: Antwaan, Having gone to IU, do you feel your experience there was beneficial in preparing you for the NFL? If so, what advice would you give your fellow Hoosier, James Hardy? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Yes, I feel it was beneficial. I was around some great coaches and some good players. What I can say to James Hardy is there are two things that keep you from playing in the NFL - not being in shape and not knowing the playbook. If you have those things down, you can play and play a long time in this league. Remember, it's still just football. NICK "the tank", Centreville VA: Do you expect your role on the team to "increase" under new head coach Jim Zorn? Do you believe that the Redskins can get to the Super Bowl with the WR's currently on the team? Thank you. GO SKINS! SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Yes and yes. I do believe that my role will be much greater under Coach. The team that we had last year, we have added some things for this year. I believe we can make it to the Super Bowl. alex fort wayne indiana: why did u decide to be a football player instead of a baseball player? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Well, coming out of high school, everyone knows I was drafted by thye Cubs. But mom and dad made me go to college. That threw me off a little bit. After a while, football was my scholarship, so I put most of my focus and time into that. As you can see, I developed pretty well! Sergio Reston,Virginia): Randle El Your in the draft room with the coaches and scouts who do you believe the skins will take on draft or who do you want the skins to take on draft day?? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Well, I would want them to draft the kid Dorsey out of LSU. He's pretty good and could get some pressure on the QB. I'm not sure who they're going to draft. I would try to get a CB or a WR. Mark H. (Bowling Green, OH): What CB do you most look forward to competing against? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Woodson, Sheldon Brown, Terrance Newman. Rob (MS): Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't you play QB at IU? What made the transistion to receiver easier for you than someone like Eric Crouch? (other than being a much better athlete) SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Well, I Was blessed with the God given talent to begin with. Then I made it up in my mind after my senior seaosn that I wouldn't make a fuss about playing QB, because this would be my second chance to play pro ball at something. Once I did that, it was work ethic after that. Matt from Pittsburgh, PA: Antwaan, since you left Pittsburgh, have you missed it? We the fans sure do! SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Certianly I miss the fans and the players and everything in Pittsburgh. I enjoyed my time there, it was great. It was unfortunate that I had to leave, but I did bring home the ring! Yessir! Jason (Cleveland, OH): You have played for two hall of fame coaches (Cowher and Gibbs) can you tell us how they are alike and how they are different? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Actually, three Hall of Fame coaches, don't forget I played for Coach Bob Knight, but I know you're talkinga bout football. The biggest difference is that one is conservative and one is more open minded when it comes to offensive and defensive strategy. Gibbs is very conservative and more old school than Cowher is. Jamie (RIchmond, VA): skins signed mathis. does this mean your no longer returning punts? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Didn't know that. I'll have to look into it. Hopefully I will. But hey, who knows, we'll see. David R. (Leesburg, VA): What are your thoughts on the Skins bringing in Mathis? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: I didn't know they brought him in. We'll have to see. It's always good to have competition. Godish (Chicago): Who was your favorite '85 Bear? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Easy. Walter Payton. No question. Jason (Cleveland, OH): Did you ever fall victim to the "Cowher Spit" during your days in Pittsburgh? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Yes indeed. I wish I could have kept a hankey in my pocket or shoulder pad or jock. Adrian (Libertyville IL): How does it feel to play in the toughest division? Ever wish you didnt have the Cowboys, Eagles and Giants all in the same division? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Well, it's badgering. But it's competition, I love competition. It makes the win all that more enjoyable. tyler sandusky: do you guys still feel like a playoff team coming off the loss to seatttle SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: No question. That's a game we should have won. We blew it when we had the 14-13 lead, having a chance to score down at the goalline. So, this year is no different. We're just going to go further in the playoffs, to the Super Bowl. David R. (Leesburg, VA): How important is it for the WRs & QB to workout together in the off-season? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Very important. Got to come together at some point and get on the same page. With timing, and understanding of the concept of the routes. Jason (Cleveland, OH): Who wins in a foot race? You or Santana? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: He'll win going forward, I can win going backward and side to side. Blake (OH): Most of the fans go ga ga when the schedule comes out but do you pay much attention to it now? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: I always pay attention to the first game. That's the most important. We play the Giants, opening day on Thursday night, for the debut for my head coach in his new gig. Matt, NY: ARE, can you talk about Jason Campbell for a moment? How do you see him progressing under Coach Zorn? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: His progress was great last year. I expect him to be much better than last year. With his foot work, his completion percentage should be higher and his decision making. Matt, NY: How does the new offense look so far on paper? Can we expect a more wide open attack this year? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Much more wide open. We won't be as held back or handcuffed as much. As we know Coach Gibbs was very conservative. It will be more uptempo and wide spread. Jason (Cleveland, OH): Is Clinton Portis as strange as he comes off as? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: No question. He's the strangest guy I know. One of the funniest, but strange. Chris (Washington, DC): A-R-E, how do you feel about Jim Zorn moving you into the slot this season? While you may not be number 2 like you were last year, many Redskins fans think that you could have Wes Welker type production there. Your thoughts? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: I can be like a Wes Welker and I can also be like a Chad Johnson, who they put in the slot from time to time but he also plays on the outside. Jamie (RIC, VA): You had some nagging injuries last year, any changes in your off season work outs? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Yes, I have. I went back to some of my old school training from my college days. I've been doing meal on the hill. That's when you make the treadmill run without power. That's helping me strengthen my hamstrings and leg muscles. rerun (su): what are your plans when your football career is over? coaching, broadcasting, business, other? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Broadcasting, maybe some coaching. I'm already involved in business. But I think it will be broadcasting and business for the most part. Kevin (Manassas): How much of an impact did the passing of Sean Taylor have on the team, and the strong finish to the season? RIP Sean Taylor. SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: It had a lot to do with why we didn't play well at times and it had a lot to do with us coming back and playing well. IT was a very tradgic time but we came together and gave it our all. Scott (Portage, IN): Who in your opinion is number one in the draft? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: I think people should be trying to get that guy Dorsey with the number one pick. He didn't test well at the combine, but he's a gamer. Eric (Indianapolis): Was your TD pass to Ward in SB XL the proudest moment of your pro career so far? SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: I would hav eto say it was. IT was a proud moment. It was something that had never been doen in the NFL. It will always be known as The Pass. SportsNation Antwaan Randle El: Thanks for tuning in. Be listening out for my new website coming out soon. I can't tell you what it is right now. hooskins 04-17-2008, 02:19 PM Bummer, he didn't get to my question. I asked about CJ, gadget plays and the Wizards. SmootSmack 04-17-2008, 02:19 PM He didn't know they signed Mathis? Interesting hooskins 04-17-2008, 02:21 PM He didn't know they signed Mathis? Interesting Yeah I am kinda shocked. I guess it is good to know he doesn't follow the media and all reporting. Doesn't seem like he would be the guy who only cares about pleasing fans and what the Post says. MTK 04-17-2008, 02:22 PM He didn't know they signed Mathis? Interesting I thought that was odd too, but then again it's the offseason and it wasn't exactly a big move or anything and probably not one that would concern him much. |
