Ok I know it another Ocho Cinco thread, but this involves a different scenario that has some evidence behind it.

So Mods please don’t lock it down.

With the draft only a couple of weeks away, there is movement in the Bengals war room that gives indication that a trade of Chad Johnson could be possible, if the scenario is right of course.

First, look at Marion Manningham, WR from Michigan. Manninghams combine performance was average to say the least, clocking a 40 time in the 4.6 range.

Then on his pro-day workout he got better on that 40 time and was running it in the 4.4 range.

In attendance at the pro-day was Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, Offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski and Mike Sheppard, Wide Receivers coach. You expect to see head coaches and coordinators at the combine with the high-profile presence in Indy. But normally pro-days are attended by scouts and maybe a position coach. The presence of Lewis and Bratkowski are indicative of “high-interest”.

Immediately after his pro-day workout, Coach Lewis invited Manningham to accompany the coaches back to Cinicinnati on the owners private jet.

Back in Cincy, Manningham has done a series of interviews, a tour of the Bengals facilities and HAS ALREADY TAKEN A PHYSICAL for the team.

With all of that evidence, speculation is now that Chad Johnson may get his wish for a trade. Whichever team in the draft selects Manningham, it is now believed that the Bengals may contact that team and OFFER Chad Johnson in a draft day trade that would send Manningham to the Bengals, and give Chad Johnson his trade wish.

All of this was reported on NFL Radio.

I was thinking that if this is accurate, then the Redskins are in a PERFECT position to acquire Chad Johnson in a draft day trade.

Cincy has the #9 pick in the first round. That is too high for Manningham and most mocks I have seen have the Bengals taking a RB like Mendenhall with that pick. Cincys second round pick is not until 15 (46 overall) and chances are Manningham will not be available at that point.

Scenario: Washington selects Manningham with their first pick (#21) then Cincinnati could trade Johnson to Washington for Mannigham and additionally they could ask for Washingtons third round pick. Since compensatory picks cannot be traded, the Redskins send Manningham and the 21st pick in the third (#84 overall) to Cincy for Chad Johnson. And the Redskins will still have a third round pick (compensatory) to use themselves.

So crazy of a scenario, it might just work.

Based on everything I've heard right now I'm putting a trade for CJ on draft day at about 20%, but the possibility could significantly go up maybe 10% after June 1. The Bengals have been rumored to want help at RB (Betts?) with them not sure about Irons' health and reportedly likely cutting Rudi Johnson after June 1 (not really sure why) and LB. With Henry gone as well now, WR may become an additional need. But they're not just going to give CJ away.

My guess is the Bengals are going to be more likely to ask for a 1st rounder next year with the thinking that the Redskins will struggle a bit under new coach Jim Zorn and will pick much higher in the first round in 2009.

If the Bengals are looking at WRs, I don't think it's in anticipation of replacing Chand Johnson. I think it's more likely in anticipation of replacing the already released Chris Henry.

I thought the same thing about Henry and I agree with you, but if they like Manningham as much as speculated he won't be available in the later rounds. Not to mention that Michigans pro-day was on March 21st, which was well before Henry got the axe. Since that pro-day was on the 21st of March it appears they have been interested in Manningham for a while.

Henry was a #3 WR and it is highly unlikely that they look at the first round to replace that slot WR.

Disagreed. See Gonzalez, Anthony. Indianapolis Colts.

I am sorry but I will be pissed if we give up a first rounder for CJ. The market was set low last year by the Moss trade but I still think he is not worth more than a 2nd.

but is CJ worth 2 first rounders? I'm on the CJ bandwagon. I could see us picking in the first round under the assumption that the person we pick is going to the Bengals along with maybe Betts or someone else, I could see us giving up the first pick and maybe a
2nd or 3rd (not both) next yr. I would like to see CJ in a Redskin uni at (almost) all cost.

I'm betting the Bengals make the move. Maybe not with the Skins but I bet they make the move. They get rid of a disgruntalled employee and get top picks in return plus an extra next yr. Now that they let Henry go though they will need maybe two WR's. One to fill Henry's spot (possibly picked in later rounds) and one to fill CJ if he is traded not to mention RB cause their RB pick last yr ended up injured and not sure if he will be ready.
I could see us giving up the first and Betts( a proven RB) then we could pick a RB/FB in the draft to replace/groom for the future. We have Rock as a RB although I'm not enamored with him, he is ok. We have Mason who I think will fill Portis's roll perfectly. Smaller speedier, shifty RB. The latest pick up we got in free agency if nothing else can do the returning as far as I'm concerned let Rock be the #2 back.

The way CJ is acting, I'd give up one pick, PERIOD. And NOT next years, because it will almost certainly be at least the same or lower than this year's.

If we give up any more than a 2nd for him, I'm going to be very upset. I'm a firm believer in character and CJ doesn't do it for me. I remember when this whole thing started back last year, Chad said that he was looking forward to signing a big money deal with the Skins; not that he was looking forward to playing for a HOF coach (when Gibbs was still here), not playing for one of the league's most storied franchises, not playing for an up and coming team, but rather, he was looking forward to a big money deal. Maybe it was a Freudian slip, but I think it speaks volumes for him.

Did not say it was a certainty, just a possibility. Plus the Colts are a team with very few holes, so they have the luxury of taking a slot guy with a high pick. So we are talking about 2 different situations entirely.

My point is which ever team takes Manningham may in all likelihood, get a call from the Bengals to do business and CJ may be involved in that conversation.

I was just pointing out that the Redskins are in just the right draft position in the first round to get Manningham. If say Tampa takes him at #20, the Bengals may call Grudens camp instead.

Bengals like Manningham, and he is a late first round/early second round projection. And the Redskins are picking in a spot in the first that is right in line with where Manningham should get picked.

And if the speculation is true about the Bengals coveting Manningham, well that could align the stars in the 'Skins favor.

Again with 2 third round picks, the Skins could "sweeten" the deal by tossing in their original third rounder. I am thinking about Campbell here. To take care of a young QB you need to provide him with weapons. With Portis in the backfield, Cooley and Moss. Toss in a WR like Johnson and you can program Campbell for success. It that in itself may be worth the price of two draft picks.

Essentially it would be a first and a third. And that is pretty good.
