Redskins draft day trade for veteran WR

Unlike other "rival" forums I have visited who, once they learn my fan affiliation, just break everything into a "smack and bash" thread, on WARPATH I can engage in some serious discussions with some seriously knowledgeable FOOTBALL fans, and 9 times out of 10 it does not turn into a bash thread.

And for that I enjoy the forum.

hmmmmm.... you some very compelling arguments. You make sense but I have a hard time beliveing it based on the talent available in the draft, and other teams who have "better" running backs to offer (and by better, I mean more recognizable and with better numbers because they havnt been behind a Clinton Portis), and are at a higher need for a top WR. I can only see us going after a WR in the draft, or a possible trade for a #2 guy, get for a good price, and put a little effort into and develop. Or both now that I think about it.

As far as a fan's prospective goes, the general consensus down here in yeehawville seems to be a want to trade away a first rounder for CJ and then a second for Roy Williams. I have not visited a Cowboy's forum so I do not know what ALL Cowboys fans are thinking but I figured talking to people here would be getting strait from the horses ass... I mean mouth.

I'm for rebuilding but I don't get the feeling this is a rebuilding as much as everyone thinks. I think it was a higher a new coach who will not change to much of what we have and what we are doing which is why Zorn is talking to Gibbs alot. We have heard the defense will essentially remain the same and now they are talking about the run game remaining the same. The only thing to change is the passing, which I take it they are going to put more WR in the line up and change up the routes a little. It doesn't sound like whole hearted rebuilding to me. Which hopefully enables us to get back to the play offs. Slip in there a proven vet WR and one missing piece to the puzzle is filled. Listening to Snyders right hand man it sounds like they like what they have in pass rush. Scary because everyone believes they are maybe one pass rusher away from being dominant.

Then we fill all the other positions. DE/DT, Safety, CB, OL.

I would also have to immagine that if CJ became available Cincy would try to get the most for him. I could see a bidding war against the Eagles. Especially since they need a tall WR also and McNabb has thrown a tempertantrum about needing a big WR. Hell the Eagles kept sweetening the pot for one WR. LOL.

Lets keep in mind that it's Chad Johnson who wants to leave his team and it's the Bengals who have to move him if they want to oblige him.

That means compensation should be based on those factors. Anyone who is talking of two first round picks, or a first and third is extremely overestimating CJ's trade value.

Remember, if we wanted to acquire Chad for high draft picks we would have done it already. It's the Bengals problem, and Chad's wish to leave that gives us leverage if they decide to move him.

I think one way or another we make a trade on draft day, whether it be CJ, Boldin or Williams we get a Vet WR on draft day for our 1st and prob. Betts (or our 3rd). Now its all a matter of are the Cards/Lions going to try to get something for their guys b4 thier contracts are up next year (thinking they have enough $ tied up in their receivers already and franchising them prob. wont be an option) or if the Bengals are willing to take the cap hit for Johnson (bc. i dont think he will offer to pay any back). Personally i dont believe Williams will be avl. and we would prob. get the best out of our $ with Boldin, either one would help this team immensely, and i would be happy with either, as i think we all should/would.

And dont hate on Sandtrap has always been a solid contributor to this site.

Based on everything I've heard right now I'm putting a trade for CJ on draft day at about 20%, but the possibility could significantly go up maybe 10% after June 1. The Bengals have been rumored to want help at RB (Betts?) with them not sure about Irons' health and reportedly likely cutting Rudi Johnson after June 1 (not really sure why) and LB. With Henry gone as well now, WR may become an additional need. But they're not just going to give CJ away.

My guess is the Bengals are going to be more likely to ask for a 1st rounder next year with the thinking that the Redskins will struggle a bit under new coach Jim Zorn and will pick much higher in the first round in 2009.

I think this is right on. Some people around the league see the Redskins as a mess with the coaching search and Snyder let loose the run the team as he pleases, so the Bengals could be thinking that by trading for the Redskins 1st rounder next year they will be getting a potential top-10 pick.

Also we keep on hearing whispers of Betts being traded and if there was a trade the Skins would be willing to pull the trigger on involving Betts this would probably be the one.

With that said there are a few things I want to know:

1. What is Chad Johnsons current cap-hit should he be released post June 1st?

3. How much are the Bengals under the cap?

As John Clayton pointed out on ESPN a few days ago, the cap hit is not the reason that Chad Johnson won't be traded. They are far enough under the cap that they won't force themselves into a situation in which they have to cut veterans. The bottom line is that the Bungles as a franchise have not been willing to give in to players' requests to be traded b/c of being disgruntled or wanting a payday. Corey Dillon tried to pursue a trade much in the same way Chad Johnson has (i.e. being vocal in the media, throwing a tantrum, threatening to sit out, etc), and it took them almost 5 years to let him go. I think they also are a franchise which likes to cover its bases before letting franchise players go. Rudi was ready to come out off the bench and start before Dillon left the bengals. I would expect them to draft a receiver and then only think about letting CJ walk. But we will see... only time will really tell.

hey i NEVER said he was worth it... just guessing what we will give up to land one of them. When was the last time the redskins came out on the better side of a deal with Snyder in charge?
