The deal I'd do is the 21 for CJ and their 2nd. And I am not even totally convinced on that.

That's conceivable, if they're demanding a first rounder for him. The Skins definitely shouldn't have to throw in more to sweeten the pot. They should.

Ok I know it another Ocho Cinco thread, but this involves a different scenario that has some evidence behind it.

So Mods please don’t lock it down.

With the draft only a couple of weeks away, there is movement in the Bengals war room that gives indication that a trade of Chad Johnson could be possible, if the scenario is right of course.

First, look at Marion Manningham, WR from Michigan. Manninghams combine performance was average to say the least, clocking a 40 time in the 4.6 range.

Then on his pro-day workout he got better on that 40 time and was running it in the 4.4 range.

In attendance at the pro-day was Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, Offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski and Mike Sheppard, Wide Receivers coach. You expect to see head coaches and coordinators at the combine with the high-profile presence in Indy. But normally pro-days are attended by scouts and maybe a position coach. The presence of Lewis and Bratkowski are indicative of “high-interest”.

Immediately after his pro-day workout, Coach Lewis invited Manningham to accompany the coaches back to Cinicinnati on the owners private jet.

Back in Cincy, Manningham has done a series of interviews, a tour of the Bengals facilities and HAS ALREADY TAKEN A PHYSICAL for the team.

With all of that evidence, speculation is now that Chad Johnson may get his wish for a trade. Whichever team in the draft selects Manningham, it is now believed that the Bengals may contact that team and OFFER Chad Johnson in a draft day trade that would send Manningham to the Bengals, and give Chad Johnson his trade wish.

All of this was reported on NFL Radio.

I was thinking that if this is accurate, then the Redskins are in a PERFECT position to acquire Chad Johnson in a draft day trade.

Cincy has the #9 pick in the first round. That is too high for Manningham and most mocks I have seen have the Bengals taking a RB like Mendenhall with that pick. Cincys second round pick is not until 15 (46 overall) and chances are Manningham will not be available at that point.

Scenario: Washington selects Manningham with their first pick (#21) then Cincinnati could trade Johnson to Washington for Mannigham and additionally they could ask for Washingtons third round pick. Since compensatory picks cannot be traded, the Redskins send Manningham and the 21st pick in the third (#84 overall) to Cincy for Chad Johnson. And the Redskins will still have a third round pick (compensatory) to use themselves.

So crazy of a scenario, it might just work.

If we do this foolishness, I will be on strike officially!

If we doo this foolishness, we will have the dumbest front office in the league, officially!

Finally, if we do this, there will never be a point in trying to justify the Redskins as a legitimate franchise while Dan Snyder is the owner.

Where is Joe Gibbs?

I agree with you Sandtrap but why does it seem like you are lobbying to make the Skins better instead of sitting back and watching us self destruct due to new coaching? Is it possibly "I'd rather be right and say I told you so," over "The Skins suck" approach? LOL.

Essentially giving up a 1st and a 3rd is what NE gave for Moss right? So the deal would not be bad for CJ. I just can't see us trading the 1st round this yr and giving them a 1st next yr. I might even go as high as a 2nd rounder only cause CJ is a proven WR and can put up the numbers. If the vetrans can keep him in check then I can see us looking 100% better next yr and hopefully Mix can be groomed into a leading WR in the league.

I'm all about character also but sometimes you have to go simply with playmaking ability so long as the character issues are not that bad. T.O. was a problem for the Eagles. Punches were flying in their locker room also. He left and there has been no major incidents(as of yet). I think CJ has a whole lot more character then T.O. hell I thought T.O. was mental during his problem cycle. If I recall Moss was no angle in Minni either.

1 + 3 = 4 correct, but giving up a 1st and a 3rd rounder is not the same thing. NE gave up a 4th round pick for Randy Moss.

ESPN - Raiders trade Moss to Patriots for 4th-round pick - NFL (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft07/news/story?id=2853116)

I'll give sandtrap credit for reporting the details & posing the scenario, as it's entirely realisitic. I just hope we don't make a play for CJ. The team has really come together for the first time this century & devloped some character thanks to Joe Gibbs. This would rock the boat & revert to the old ways of DS making the big move that in the end signifies nothing.

This is a decent draft for wr's in the 2nd & 3rd rounds, let's take our chances there.

I have to admit though, if we got a steal like CJ for our 3rd that would be hard to argue with. I wouldn't like him anymore than I do now, but at least that would make good biz sense.

NO, NO, NO. Not a first rounder and Betts, and NO F-ing way for two first rounders. Isn't, shouldn't and won't be an option for us. Keep our picks, and for damn sure keep our #2 running back.

Now, I would trade for CJ if it were JUST for ONE of our 3rd round picks.

That seems fair for an aging trouble making WR, who will want a big contract later on.

If we get him for a 3rd round draft pick, then that frees us up for some other moves in the draft.

We wouldn't need a WR as early(although, I would still want to pick up Jordy Nelson int he 2nd or 3rd), and we could make O-line and D-line priorites inthe early round of the draft.

It's not going to happen. Why would Cincy do this? They'll take a huge cap hit. They just released Henry. Manningham could be another Desmond Howard. What message does it send to their players, whine and you'll get released, no matter how bad it hurts the franchise?

Cincy is a small market team, they don't have the $$$ the Skins, Cowboys and Pats have to absorb on problems or mistakes. This is the same talk Briggs had last off-season and he went nowhere. CJ is not going anywhere unless a foolish team gives up way too much to get him, and I sure don't want that to be us.
