I am loving this years offseason. I hope we keep this attitude going, and see our team become a powerhouse once agian.

Anyone have any ideas who might want to trade back into the first round? For some reason I feel like the Chiefs might be willing but I don't really have any basis for that. Falcons seem out of the loop since they seem intent on gathering more picks.

Chicago could move up if one the QB's stock rises before the draft.

St. Louis would be great, but I'm not sure if we have anything they need, that is unless they fall in love with one of the 1st round recievers.

San Francisco doesn't have a 1st round pick so it's possible that we could grab their 2nd and 3rd rounder.

Buffalo seems like the type of team that would be willing to make such a deal. And if Malcom Kelly is still there they could be inclined to move up to our spot.

Any other ideas. I think in the end the most attractive bait at our disposal would be one of the 1st round recievers especially Kelly or Jackson. Personally I doubt we'd pass on Merling and Balmer isn't going to make anyone trade up. Of course if Merling was still there we could work out a deal with Jacksonville and pick up and extra second while taking Campbell at 26. Talib or Jenkins might also serve as attractive bait for any team looking for a corner.

If the Jacksonville trade worked out I could forsee a draft playing out like this

1st 26th - Calias Campbell - DE - Miami
2nd 21st - Reggie Smith CB/S Oklahoma
2nd 26th - Carl Nicks G/T - Nebraska or Jordy Nelson - WR - Kansas State
3rd 21st - Jerome Simpson - WR - Coastal Carolina or Roy Scheuning - G - Oregon State
3rd comp - DeMario Pressley DT - NC State

Saints and Colts have both been rumored to want to trade (up and down) but I don't know anything more than that

I don't think the Colt's have enough to trade up unless they offer a 1st rounder next year, and thats very risky considering that we're planning on filling roster holes through the draft.

New Orleans would be good, but who would they target at 21. I doubt they're looking for another reciever and if Merling is the guy I would consider Jacksonville a more likely suitor.


Now that I think about it, the bait for New Orleans to move up would be a corner like Jenkins or Talib especially if they take Keith Rivers with the 10th overall pick. They also might want to make a move for Gosder Cherilus (http://insider.espn.go.com/nfldraft/draft/tracker/player?draftyear=2008&id=11584) or Kenny Phillips if they feel that they won't be able to get him at their spot in the second round. Apparently Balmer is also a slight possiblity but as I said before, I doubt that anyone trades back into the 1st round for Balmer. He's more the type of guy that falls to you.

Theres also the possiblity that if Albert falls to us then we could get a team that wants to trade up. The Steelers are possible here since they recently broke their draft day tradition of not trading up last year. In other words it's possible that the Steelers might trade with the Redskins to persuade them not to take Albert or trade with the Buc's. The price would be a 1st and a 3rd.

We'll only get the benefit and value of trading down if a team approaches us on trading up. Unforntunately we will have to luck ourselves into that senario. I'm not counting on that to happen since those chances are long.

Theres a good chance that you're right and we may have to resign ourself to the 21st pick. However I think that the more I look at the situation the more I see the Redskins finding potential suitors.

Another team I forgot to mention before now are the Jets. Now signs point to them taking Vernon Gholston (DE Ohio State) with the 6th pick. After that they have needs at CB, WR, and FS. All of these are positions that could be ripe when 21 roles around. Plus, as most of us know, the Skin's and Jets have a history when it comes to trades.

And speaking of trade history, we also have a relationship with the Bronoc's who pick 12th in every round. In that case, if the Bronoc's are somehow sold on Kentwan Balmer (DT UNC) over prospects like Pat Sims (Auburn) and Trevor Laws (Notre Dame) or feel the need to get one of the first teir Recievers to help Jay Cutler in his development in light of their problems with Brandon Marshall and the departure of Javon Walker, then the possiblity of a trade with the Bronco's could be realistic.

Of course a lot of our trade down options will depend on who's availabe at 21 on draft day. I wouldn't count on a trade like the one we made for the Bronco's 25th pick in 2005 a day or two before the draft (of course in this case we would be trading down). If we do trade down it'll probalby be when we're on the clock.

I agree with the 49ers, Bronco's, and Jets (actually on that front we might be even), but what did the Falcons do, besides let us comeback from ~17 points after halftime back in 2003 (Went to that game by the way :D)? And the Bears, well we screwed them over on that one.
