J. Spanky 04-03-2008, 09:26 AM Last year Portis fumbled 6 times on 372 touches. Betts fumbled once on 114 touches.
Between the two that's 1 fumble every 70 touches. That's really not too bad.
touche. this past year was better than years past. but they both have a history of coughing up the ball. if you look at the numbers, compared to the other starting backs in the league, over the past few years, portis amongst the worst at holding onto the ball. and betts, accounting for the difference in touches, is not far behind. i'll try and find some stats....

Actually this past year was the most CP has ever fumbled in a season.

mind you, i'm comparing portis to the other rb's in the league, not to himself.
note here (http://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2007/rushing.htm) that in 2007, only reggie bust, i mean bush, with 8, had more fumbles than portis' 6.
i'm at work so unfortunately i don't have time to find all kinds of career stats. but i am 100% certain that portis is consistently among the top 5 fumbling rb's.
anyway, i'm a huge portis fan and i don't want to come down on him. i believe him to be one of the top 5 BEST rb's. all i'm saying is i hope the new rb coach's will address the fumbles. similar to how coughlin and his staff addressed tiki's fumblitis when they arrived in ny.
I'd like to see a comparison of him against a few backs, not just Bush.
1 fumble per every 87 touches is not bad at all and really not a huge concern if you ask me.
He's no Ricky Williams who averages 1 fumble per every 55 touches over his career. Now that's a fumbler.

DeShaun Foster had 7 according to your link.
BAFGA 04-03-2008, 12:49 PM Stump Mitchell and Nemo went to the same college (Citadel), so maybe there was a connection there?

Seemed like early on in Tiki Barber's career, that he fumbled every time he had the ball, and Tom Coughlin came in and showed Tiki how to carry the ball differently and it really helped him, hopefully since Zorn was a scrambles, he knows some good ways to protect the football, and can show them to CP, and Ladell, and Rock, and Marcus Mason.
