as the draft gets closer and its becomes more apparent that we will get our new talent on the team through the draft I have come up with a draft strategy that we can use to address all our need and get some value, I will lay it out there and ask the board to tell me what you think.

1: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB Tennessee ST
why?: Springs is aging and in the twilight of his career and Rogers is comming of a tremendous injury, smoot is good but outside of those players there is few that can play right now in the NFL. It is time to look to the future and cromartie can use a year to learn from Smoot and Springs. He already is working with Green! He has blazing speed and great cover skills he could spend this season in the nickle and return punts.

2:MOVE UP!: Trevors laws DT Nortre Dame
Why: He is a force in the interior, high motor and would compliment the large Montgomery as well as add to a pass rush up the middle

3:Trade pick to move up

3(comp):Jerome Simpson WR Coastal Carolina
Why?: he has size, okay speed and can jump throgh the roof. he was a touchdown scoring machine for his team percise route runner solid #2 comparison: Reggie Wayne *Biggest hands and reach in the combine*

5:John Greco G/T Toledo
Why: He has the all the intangibles and could do well under the right coach~ who we have on staff currently :)

6:Marcus Monk WR Arkansas-
Why?:u guys know who he is and what he bring so I won't get into it...

7:Marcus Dixon De Hampton
Why?: great production while in school, had a minor transgression in highschool but was later turned around. He can rush the passer and voted hardest worker/ mvp of team.

7 (comp): Bernard Morris QB Marshal-
Why?: Athletic QB, good 3rd stringer nice arm won't challenge for the starting job.

7 (comp): Bobbie Williams Bethune Cookman S
Why: Has the motor and intensity of a blue chiper he is worth the late round pick.HE hits like a monster look him up on you tube!

Honorable mention: Jamie Silva S Boston College- the kid has heart and would work well with landry.

So tell me what ya think!

I see a wide receiver in the first round...Limas Sweed I would think. After that...I am torn. We need to build up depth on D-Line, Cornerback and Safety. Not sure which one we go for in the second round...I assume they will rate players with an overall number (regardless of position) and the highest rated player available when the 2nd round pick comes up will get the call. My hope is that we get a kick-ass DE or DT and also a talented cornerback by the end of the 3rd round. And, assuming we actually do get a compensatory 3rd or 4th round pick...why not grab a QB? Booty, Ainge, Josh Johnson and Colt Brennan are all projected to be available in the 3-4-5 rounds. I am not sold on Campbell yet...he made too many mistakes at the wrong time last season for us to not think about another young QB for Zorn to tutor and press Campbell. Competition is good at the QB position...may the best man win.

Cromartie is predicted to be gone waaaay before our pick, as is Talib. Of course I'd love to get either ,but I don't see it happening without trading up.

Posted this in another tread, but I guess this is also a good place to put it:

So I guess my draft/what I want yet realistically see the Redskins doing goes as follows. I think at this point I have to many DE's but we'll see.

1st - Mike Jenkins - CB/S - South Florida (I mean I guess it's kind of like Miami)

2nd - Jordy Nelson - WR - Kansas (Only Reciever worth a look IMO after the 1st round, and despite his 3rd round grade I doubt the skins will be able to get him without trading up in the 3rd round, which is impossible without unloding one of next years picks)

3rd - Robert Felton - G - Arkansas (Reminds me a lot of Dockery and personally I believe hes a big part of the reason Arkansas had success running the ball)

3rd Comp - Wallace Gilbery - DE - Alabama (My favorite sleeper with 10 sacks and 27 TFL)

5th - Dennis Dixon - QB - Oregon or Colt Brenen - QB - Hawaii (Grrrrr do we really need to waste a pick on a QB)

6th - Rudolph Hardie - DE - Howard (Thanks to ThatGuy for bringing him to my attention)

7th - Jamie Silva - S - BC (Overachiever that might be picked about 10 picks ahead of where I'm projecting him here)

7th - Marcus Dixon - DE/DT - Hampton (Would give the Skins that 3 technique they're looking for)

7th - Marcus Monk - WR - Arkansas (He's like.....huge, but also productive especially for a 7th round pick)

UDFA - Andrew Crummy - G - Maryland (Stephon Heyer.....Andrew Crummy, see the pattern?)

Also as far as Guard is concerned, we've taken the 5th/6th round route in the past, and to my knowledge not one of those guys ever developed into anything. The only guy thats ever emerged is Stephon Heyer, and as you can see I predict the Redskins continuing the trend of developing an UDFA from Maryland for the second year in a row. This time around I believe its imparitive to draft a lineman within the first 3 rounds.

Lol, maybe I do, but I'm stuck at work in my schools tech building these days so posting here usually helps the time fly by. Besides I rarely post during the season so it all evens out.

There's no doubt that Jenkins and Jordy Nelson fill two gaps on our team right now, but those are hardly the biggest gaps. There's a big probability that if we go this route, we have a 50% chance or better of not improving the team over the long haul here, and IMO the chance to land low risk talent on the edges does not justify taking potshot chances at filling long term holes on the lines.

The issue here is that if we are to assume that Crummney, Hardie, Gilberry, Felton are the solution on our line issues, we have to play them as if we are just assuming that they will play like first or second rounders. We don't have to do that with a third corner or a third receivers.

Of course, if you are right here and those guys turn out to be above average NFL starters, you've just made a hell of a draft. But is that something you want to risk the future of the team under Zorn and Campbell on?

I just don't have the cajones to pull that ;)

Jenkins would be a good value pick at 21, but I think if we choose to take a corner in the first round, then we definately should spend the next two picks addressing line. The second round is really high for a guy who, very optimistically, projects as a No. 2 receiver.

So tell me what ya think!I think the trade up for a player like Laws is a good idea if we fill a hole like Guard by taking Branden Albert at 23. However, if we choose to take the value and select Cromartie at 21, I would definately argue against a trade up because we still have massive needs on the OL that we can't solve if we trade the 3rd round pick.

And I would love Trevor Laws, and I do think Cerrato values him highly. But he won't give up the third rounder to get him if he needs the pick to address a need position.

Well the draft is a hybrid of what I want and what I think the front office will try to do. So far I know the following.

1. The DC thinks that building a defense begins at CB

2. Danny wants a big reciever and after Nelson there are no quality big men available. Plus Cerrato has been quoted by members here as saying that no reciever has been given a first round grade by our front office. On top of that the Redskins lost out on the Caldwell and Hacket sweepstakes.

3. We need a LDE that can possibly be a starter down the road.

4. The Skins don't shy away from drafting two guys at a particular spot as seen with DT and LB in recent years.

5. The Skins want a DT with pass rush ability, and I'll admit I didn't address that directly but two of those guys could possibly move inside and play the 3 technique.

6. The FO values a swing offenisve lineman that could possibly start in a year or two and have been pretty sucesful finding guys in the 3rd round.

I'm with you, I want to see the Redskins adress the line. However based on the philosophies of the FO and coaching staff I put together the mock draft that you see here in this thread. If it was up to me then you would see a draft with.....actually ****, it's to hard to think for myself.
