how many press conferences did we see where the game was filled with mistakes and all spurrier did was say "well...the players are professionals and they know what they did wrong so its up to them to work on it and fix it..." and then he leaves to go play golf. As a head coach you want good assistants, but there job is not to do everything and then you call the plays on game day.

Look no further then when Jansen was asked about the gameplans the last two years and he basically said there were no gameplans.

I have no problem with a coach delegating duties, all coaches do it, but the head coach is still the one who's ultimately responsible. I think it's quite telling the team regressed so much after Marvin Lewis left, I wonder who was really running the show that first season.

I don't think Spurrier will come back to the NFL. He left with his tail between his legs, he knew he was overmatched at this level. If he comes back I would be very surprised.

ya never know though, he might be sitting at home doing nothing but trying to devise plays and learn how to be a real coach. Mabye he should have taken a year off to get all his golfing in so he wouldlnt have to play so much during the season...lol

with marvin our defense was 5th overall i believe, without him - 25th...
he was a bit mad he didn't get offered the head job here, but he's proven he belongs by turning the BENGALS??? into winners... however, we ended up with gibbs this way, and if marvin were head coach, he might be coaching in atlanta, so i'm a bit thankful for that, but not too much.

Spurrier wanted to divide work up with everyone. He thought that the O line coach specializes in O line so he lets the O line coach do his thing. So on and so on. That Guy was completely correct in saying he needs a new coaching staff to succeed. If Spurrier had the coaching staff we have now we would have been in the playoff's last year.

Believe me, there weren't exactly a ton of openings this off season. Jim Fassel was demoted to Offensive Coordinator of perhaps the worst overall offenses in football.

I want to see what happens when Wandstat is fired. Spurrier may get a shot in his native Florida with a semi-patient owner/fan base. He had 2 years, hardly enough time to turn the ship around. More wins than Jimmy Johnson and Bellicheck in their first two years.

As far as bringing in Florida guys, you're right. I mean, who does that? Oh, EVERYONE. Parcells, Bellicheck, Jimmy Johnson, and so on. You bring in players that are famillier with you and your system. It's how the game works.

For my previous job, I was in fact in the locker room and around Redskins Park often. And Spurrier, who I think has the tangible skills to succeed, had the mentality of someone who simply did not want to be with the Redskins let alone anywhere in the DC area. Say what you will about Marty but he was involved in every aspect of the organization, he cared about what was going on and he truly wanted to make an impact. At least that's the impression I got being around him. I, and many others, simply did not get that feeling from Spurrier.

As for him being successful if he had the coaching staff we had now. I don't know what that's supposed to mean. Spurrier had the staff he wanted, it's not like he said I want X coaches and he got Z coaches.

why i say that is because the people he wanted and the people he needed were two different things. If he had a greg williams (and his support staff), we could have probably done 8-8 last year... snyder stepped in after the first year and started firing people SS wanted to keep though, and that's never a good thing.

Actually, in preseason 2, Snyder made the famous move of dropping Watson and the QB, both of whom Spurrier wanted (Watson was the only RB on the team that could pick up blitzes). But I don't recall Snyder "firing" anyone. He should have fired the S/T and OL coaches and the Def/Coord, but did not. As I understand it, that is what was happening after year 2 that caused SS to hit the road. Great move by Snyder.

That actually goes back to the whole issue of Spurrier repeatedly refusing to go to front office meetings because he was just there to "coach football" So when a player personnel move was made he'd be in shock, but it's not like he wasn't given the opportunity to state his case
