The problem with Spurrier was that he never wanted to attend those player personnel meetings. It's not that he was kept in the dark it's that he chose to be. In his mind, all that personnel stuff was not his responsibility. He was just there to coach football
I'm not blaming Spurrier for not knowing, I just got a little sidetracked. As SS said, he was just there to coach, personnel was up to the FO.
There was plenty to blame him for though.

he might need to ditch his lax attitude and crappy supporting staff in order to do so...

In top flight organizations only the HC is supposed to make the cuts and signing? The HC Steve Spurrier was did not strike me as being interested in personel matters or special teams or defence or the offensive line or making game plans to counter specific changes or to make changes to his own system to counter the problem that it was exposed from week three onwards.
Also in the year Steve Spurrier did have full control over personel moves on offence we picked up such jems as Danny W, Shane Mathews, J Green, Anthoney etc etc. So Armstead is upset it takes a real las guy to take a pop at a team who simply wants to go in another direction at the position.

The obvious take on that entire article is SOUR GRAPES. Jesse just wants to attack Snyder because he was dumped. What a bunch of pure crap. Spurrier was a complete joke of a head coach. Believe me, if this stuff had gone down as he says, it would be all over the league, and Spurrier would be given other opportunities. Let's watch all the NFL offers pour in for the ol' ball coach.

It's nice to see that all of you were in the locker room and know all about Spurrier!
Spurrier wanted to divide work up with everyone. He thought that the O line coach specializes in O line so he lets the O line coach do his thing. So on and so on. That Guy was completely correct in saying he needs a new coaching staff to succeed. If Spurrier had the coaching staff we have now we would have been in the playoff's last year.
Believe me, there weren't exactly a ton of openings this off season. Jim Fassel was demoted to Offensive Coordinator of perhaps the worst overall offenses in football.
I want to see what happens when Wandstat is fired. Spurrier may get a shot in his native Florida with a semi-patient owner/fan base. He had 2 years, hardly enough time to turn the ship around. More wins than Jimmy Johnson and Bellicheck in their first two years.
As far as bringing in Florida guys, you're right. I mean, who does that? Oh, EVERYONE. Parcells, Bellicheck, Jimmy Johnson, and so on. You bring in players that are famillier with you and your system. It's how the game works.

It's nice to see that all of you were in the locker room and know all about Spurrier! ... It's how the game works.
No offense, Daseal, but you did not have to be in the locker room to see what kind of coach Spurrier was. His NFL teams were the most ill-prepared, poorly coached I have ever seen. I was not in the locker room with Gibbs or Lombardi (or even Landry for that matter), but their teams were very obviously well-coached. Constant, ongoing problems with idiotic penalties like the Redskins were making is ALWAYS a SURE sign of bad coaching. He was never able to adjust to handle the blitzes, so more and more came at him. His blocking schemes looked like a fire drill. Don't wait for him to get his next NFL coaching job. There is absolutely no possibility of that happening. But he will surely coach college again, where he is one of the best. What is the difference? There are many. One of the most important is the fact that every college defense he faces has strong weaknesses, especially when numerous DB's have to be on the field. His passing strategy floods the defensive backfield with WR's and exploits the weak DB(s). And college defenses are not anywhere near the sophistication of the Pros. I did feel bad for Spurrier last year. It was obvious he was totally miserable. And that is another reason he will not be back in the NFL. He will stick with the game where he knows he will succeed, and be happy.
