Matty -- I'd argue Pearl Jam never put on a good show, nor a good sound. I've never gotten into them.

Well, that would be a horrible argument. You can't name many groups with three outstanding cd's like Ten, VS, and Vitology, all back to back to back. Pearl Jam is one of the best groups of all time. They will forever be linked to the grunge era music like Nirvana and STP for instance.
If I recall, you are a 311 fan right? 311 has never had a CD that has done as well as any of the 3 mentioned PJ cd's. PJ revolutionized music and if it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have the music we have today. They were pioneers.

To each his own.

No need to shit on those that do like them though.

wow, I didn't know anybody even gave a flying horse shit about them anymore. Oh well not knocking anyone who is a fan, but I cant stand them. I never was into the whole crybaby, the earth is dying, whiny, tree hugging, flannel shirt, ripped jeans, grunge vomit. A great friend of mine is a production or stage mgr.(cant remember which) at the Va Bch amp theater, and can get me in to any show, sold out or not, and I wont be abusing that privilege on this show...for sure.

Actually, I'd have to agree with you.

I never really got into them but I'd listen to them if I heard them on the radio. They were OK.

But, in the past few years, Vedder has gone the Barbara Streisand, Dixie Chicks and Bruce Springsteen route of ruining their shows to tell us what they think, what we should think and who to vote for. That doesn't belong in concerts. If I pay money to hear someone's music, they better shut up and sing.

Yes PJ is politically active but I've never found that to interfere with their shows. They still rock out for a good 2-3 hours most nights and they'll rip through upwards of 30 songs. So they do indeed shut up and play. Eddie isn't one for much chatter during shows as it is other than 'thank you' and saying hello to the crowd.

Considering their last album debuted at #2 on the charts and they can still sell out places like Madison Square Garden on consecutive nights, I guess enough people out there do give a flying horse shit about them.

I usually don't trust Wikipedia, but I have always heard reports about him shooting off his mouth in concerts and disappointing people. This seems to back up the reports I've heard:

The band, and especially frontman Eddie Vedder, have been vocal supporters of the pro-choice movement. In 1992 Spin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spin_%28magazine%29) printed an article by Vedder, entitled "Reclamation", that detailed his views on abortion.[84] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearl_Jam#cite_note-83) In an MTV Unplugged (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MTV_Unplugged) concert the same year, Vedder stood on a stool and wrote "PRO-CHOICE!" on his arm in protest.[32] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearl_Jam#cite_note-tenpast-31) The band are members of a number of pro-choice organizations, including Choice USA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choice_USA) and Voters for Choice.[81] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearl_Jam#cite_note-causes-80)
As members of Rock the Vote (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_the_Vote) and Vote for Change (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vote_for_Change), the band has encouraged voter registration and participation in United States elections (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elections_in_the_United_States). Vedder was outspoken in support of Green Party (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Party_%28United_States%29) presidential candidate Ralph Nader (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Nader) in 2000[85] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearl_Jam#cite_note-84) and Pearl Jam played a series of concerts on the Vote for Change tour in October 2004, supporting the candidacy of John Kerry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Kerry) for U.S. President (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President_of_the_United_States). In a Rolling Stone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling_Stone) feature showcasing the Vote for Change tour's performers, Vedder told the magazine, "I supported Ralph Nader in 2000, but it's a time of crisis. We have to get a new administration in."[86] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearl_Jam#cite_note-85)
Vedder usually comments on politics between songs, often to criticize U.S. foreign policy, and a number of his songs, including "Bu$hleaguer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bu%24hleaguer)" and "World Wide Suicide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Wide_Suicide)", are openly critical of the Bush administration (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Bush_administration). At Lollapalooza 2007, Vedder spoke out against BP Amoco (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BP_Amoco) dumping effluent in Lake Michigan; at the end of "Daughter", he sang the lyrics "George Bush leave this world alone/George Bush find yourself another home". In the beginning of the second encore Vedder invited Iraq war veteran Tomas Young, the subject of the documentary Body of War (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_of_War), onto the stage to urge an end to the war.

My guess is you wouldn't be saying he's shooting off his mouth and disappointing people if he was talking about policies you agree with

Your referring to a select few incidents, I've seen them multiple times and I've never heard much political talk from them, and when I have it's usually well received by the crowd. As I said they are political but that's definitely not what they're all about.

And I'd say a good majority of PJ fans probably lean to the left anyway.
