i'd rather keep the pick and hopefully we can land a stud in the lower rounds rounds.. Look at the studs we have landed in the 5th and 6th. Imagine the type of players we will be able to get with the 1st,2nd,and 2-3rd's. I dont think between the contract he's gonna want, and the picks we will have to give up would be worth it.

But if he was a FA, I would def say pull the trigger. A physical specimen like peppers will be a freak until he's 30 at least, last year he was just on a bad defense and they had NO team leaders and so his numbers and play sucked. You can't base one bad year on the rest of his career, especially when he has been AWESOME every season before.

While JP has in previous years demonstrated the type of physical dominance most teams covet, it's not likely we'll be interested in offering the Panthers what they would want in trade.

Furthermore, neither would we be interested in paying the type contract he would be seeking for his services.

Look for the team to continue the approach you've witnessed since the beginning of FA. It's a nice thought, just not likely to happen.

Yeah, last I heard they offered a 3rd but the Texans were asking for a 2nd. They also reportedly offered a late round pick for Chris Simms, which the Bucs rejected. But that could be revisited too.

I look at the division and I think they have a great shot even with T. Jackson to take the division with a 9-7/10-6 record. I guess a lot will depend on just how good Aaron Rodgers will be with the Packers.

I can't remember who mentioned him first here. But Hampton's DE Kendall Langford could be a steal late.

I absolutely want him. He is not a leader or a self motivating player, but he is a dominant force. During the Pussycats heyday Minter pushed every player on that D to play harder. Losing Minter last year hurt him because he needs to be led and motivated. Coach Blache, Fletcher, Springs, Daniels and Washington won't let him slack. Ever. This would be the greatest signing ever!
I would absolutely trade at least two 2nd rounders and possibly add a 6 or 7 to it for him.
The question is, how do we afford him? I think he absolutely worth $7mil/yr. But how do we afford it?

I have entirely soured on the "trade for other teams players" route especially the "trade for other teams stars" route. If you look at our recent draft history (since 2004), we have hit on all our 1-3rd round picks (six picks, six starters) (jury is stll out on 2005's JC and Carlos).

Somewhere around 2004'ish, the FO starting getting some good hits and it seems, to me at least, that our drafting has actually improved. As such, I really am all about getting as many shots in the lottery as possible. For those who say, "you know what you're getting when you trade for an established player" You mean like Archuletta? LLoyd? Trung? John Hall? Chad Morton? Free agency and pro players are a crapshoot too. Is he going to adapt? Was he just looking for the payday? Was he a product of the system? etc.

I like our draft choices recently and hope we can continue to hit on the early rounders and find some gems in the later rounds. If so, then we will be built to win EVERY year not just for a particular year.

the guy was surrounded by leaders in the locker room in Carolina. John Fox is a defensive coach, who drafted him. Steve Smith, Vinny T, Morgan, Jenkins, all were there trying to get this guy to play hard, intense and he did nothing. Look, maybe a change of scenary will work, but to break the bank with a guy like him, coming off a horrible season, and basically was getting beat one on one every snap, i say no way.
Carolina stunk, but the defense was not horrible. it was decent. I believe it finished top 15?? I just so no. I live in Charlotte and hear the bad stuff every day during the season and I just dont want him on my team.

exactly, look how good we have been drafting players in the high rounds.. imagine what kind of studs we will be grabbing with the first 4 picks.

We have a 1st, a-2nd, 2-3rds,5th(not sure if we have 2 5ths or not),6th, and 2-7ths.[the comp 7th is more like the first shot at signing UDFA]

(but the comp pick is more like the first pick in the begining of the 4th round) So I would just say we have a full set of picks if you count that comp pick as a replacement for our 4th we gave away for duckett.

I think we are going to get some GREAT players out this years draft. Theres not much talent difference between a 1st rounder and a 3rd this year so that REALLY helps people with later round picks like us. jmo

nah man.. you are kinda wrong on this.. I remember hearing a big thing about there being no leaders in caroline and they were trying to force the leader role on peppers.. you cant just force that on him... Ever since their safety retired their team sucked. They dont have ANY team leaders. Steve Smith is a playmaker, but hes not a team leader.

btw- i just moved back to VA from raleigh, i was living there for about 2 years, and I have a lot of family in Raleigh and charlotte, and my cousin and my uncle by marriage are huge panther fans and they have been saying the same thing. At least they got lucky with Beason.

The guy has one bad year on a really bad team and everyone wants to remove the talent level from the previous years in which we all could argue he was one of the most dominate forces in the game. Almost all great athletes have 1-2 bad years in them. At 27-28 this guy didn’t just forget how to play football, come on!

Also, it is to our advantage that he had a bad year as his stock, and contract negotiation powers have dropped slightly, otherwise Carolina wouldn’t be willing to deal him.
football is unlike any sport. the older you get, you will reach the pinnacle of your individual success. i think Peppers has already peaked. it has been forever since the skins had a dominate pass rusher. so i understand your enthusiasm. but don't get blinded. he is definitely looking to get paid. and he has sustained his talent level, why is Carolina willing to trade him? i say no( again)
