I might be one of only a few people on this bandwagon, but I think this kid would be PERFECT for us. He'll come cheap due to concerns about his knee, even though he played 6 games to end his senior season. Even better, he's 6'6" and 219lbs and has great speed as well.
I'm not sold on Hackett at all, and he'll cost us 5 mil a year or so while Monk will cost us less than a mil per year. Not that we can't have both.
To me, WR's are close to a dime a dozen. A lot of them are interchangable and they rely on opportunity to succeed. Why not go young and get someone huge like Monk to take over. He might not make the immediate impact you look for, but his 2nd and 3rd seasons could be big for us. Plus all the money we save could go to much more needed positions.

I want this kid...and how cool would it be for us to have another successful wr named Monk?

I love it! A couple of weeks ago I casually mentioned Devin Thomas and a groundswell of Thomas' supporters arose. Same thing might be happening now with Monk :)

I'd rather have Monk just because I think we can get him later and fill other needs earlier in the draft

Good thread :)

Wrong forum though, moving it

Exactly! If we can get him with the 5th round pick, we'd have 1-3 to use to fill other positions. I have a feeling he will go in the late 3rd early 4th though. But that's just a feeling. Does anyone have his combine results?

How about that James Hardy kid from Indiana if he were there in the 2nd? Though I suspect a guy with that size/speed/production will probably slip into the first once scouts get excited about him.

i think i mentioned him about a month ago ;)

he's a good 7th round pick, he does NOT have good speed, and he's not a great WR, but he can block well (lots of practice blocking for mcfadden), he is big, and he'd be great on teams.

he's a 1st rounder, he ran a 4.5 at 6'5"+. so he might not even be there with our first pick.

a quick trip to our Draft thread reveals a link to all combine results:
2008 NFL Scouting Combine Stats: Receivers (http://www.footballsfuture.com/2008/combineWR.html)

Marcus Monk, Arkansas, 4.57, 222lbs, 6'4.25", 9 reps.

oh yeah, also from ncaa stat database, his full statlines from arkansas:
NCAA DIVISION I FOOTBALL (http://web1.ncaa.org/d1mfb/playerDetail.jsp?yr=2007&org=31&player=85)

if you notice, he did have a 962yd year, but he tended to beat up on south carolina and vandy, so...

Yeah but clearly no one pays attention to what you have to say ;)

Seriously though, yeah you and I think maybe SBXVII were the early adopters to Monk 2.0 (is that blasphemous)

In that 5th-6th round I like Monk, Hubbard, and that kid from Duquesne. Mario Urrutia might not be awful either.

You can count me on this Bandwagon. Someone did mention him a month ago and I liked the idea. Not only in name but he does seem to be a good WR. I would also look at Manley Jr. in a later round also if possible. He may turn out to be a diamond in the rough.
