DJ Hackett? What the hell is going on here? We've gone from Chad Johnson to this bum? He averaged 30 catches a year. No thanks. I miss the old days of Redskins One already.
Wow.
I sure don't. I'm enjoying the silence.
SmootSmack 03-06-2008, 01:11 PM Actually, I'm pretty sure we can sign anybody's practice squad player without compensating the other team.
It's how we got Anthony Mix isn't it?
Yeah you can sign anyone off a PS but you have to sign them to your active roster.
That Guy 03-06-2008, 02:26 PM 4mill per for hackett. he hasn't really proven enough (And unlike el, we're not bidding against ourselves here).
scheed, i think your position was that WR's weren't very important to winning and losing games, so why do you want to pay a #2 or #3 without great production 6mill/year?
Dirtbag59 03-07-2008, 03:48 PM Anthony Mix FTW, Lol.
I calculated that last year gad Hacket been healthy he would have gained 1,200 yards. Of course that was based on 4 or 5 games as I didn't the first game of the season where he either got injured or didn't start.
I'm seriously worried about his durability, but I'm hoping that having most of the year off helped him get healthy enough to play through an entie season. Also one of my more respected stat guys had this to say aobut our boy
"Underrated
D.J. Hackett, WR: Hackett actually is still unsigned, so technically, he doesn't count as an underrated signing. But frankly, I am amazed some team hasn't snagged him. According to my estimations, Hackett is the second-best free-agent wide receiver on the market this offseason. I actually had him ranked in front of Berrian after doing a study of their YPA productivity over the past three years.
If you don't believe Hackett is better than Berrian, take a look at their total YPAs during this time:"
Then he displays a table thats hard to copy
"Hackett played only six regular-season games in 2007, while Berrian started 15 games and played all 16. Despite this big difference in games played, Berrian still totaled only 552 more yards over the past three years.
Hackett didn't top Berrian in only overall YPA. Check out their individual route depth totals"
More tables
Hackett topped Berrian in YPA at every depth level and was nearly as productive overall -- even with the 10 games missed this past year. Playing in Seattle's pass-happy system certainly helped Hackett, but a 9.9 overall YPA is quite impressive, no matter the circumstances. Hackett has the highest upside of any free agent left on the market, regardless of position.
freddyg12 03-07-2008, 04:10 PM Hackett sure looked great against Springs et al in the playoffs. Seemed to know Springs' game & exploited his inside coverage tactics.
It's always a concern when a guy can't play many games & there's always the 'playing for a contract' motivation, some guys step it up just to get a deal but can't maintain that level.
I like Hackett overall, but I would rather draft a couple wr's at this point. I don't think we need or can expect much production from a rookie in year 1, but if he could crack the lineup by mid season as the #2 I think that would be a major accomplishment. Drafting a couple & bringing some undrafted free agents in, increses the chances that we find one good one.
skinsfan_nn 03-07-2008, 06:16 PM It doesn't appear any interest at picking up D.J. either. Or maybe the dollars are just going to have to drop for us to make a run at him.
With whats left out there you would have to think we are going to or are in the process of making a play at a big WR however that might be....? Or no move at all. IMO before we pay to much for the couple of guys that are still being talked about on the market ( that noboby is picking up), I would just as well keep Moss, Are,Thrash, Reche, McCardell, Mix in their current roles in which we are trying to fill with this possible WR FA. And use a middle round draft pick for a WR pick, it appears the WR depth in the draft is decent.

first off, this is my first time here. i like the look of the site and overall attitude of the threads i've read. my hats off to those that run the place.
i read Joyners comments before. it's nice to see someone with a little knowledge sees what i see. :D
i mean, the guy produces- when he's on the field, that is. that cant even be a question. he's nowhere near being a 'bum' or 'average'. i dont think you can just look at his numbers at the end of a year and come to a conclusion about his talent or potential.
football outsiders broke down hacketts games from 2006 and had him ranked 15th overall, but #2 in the entire NFL in defense adjusted value. i think thats pretty impressive.
i'm not saying pay him 20 mil, but this guy is clearly a very good WR, he's familiar with Zorn and the system, he's available, and he will likely come at a 'reasonable', bargain price.

i've come up with a theory about that. having absolutely no idea how negotiations work, i'm thinking that the skins contacted hacketts agent (which they reportedly have), told him they are interested but that they won't break the bank. so they said 'see what interest you get from other teams, and when you get an offer, maybe we can beat it and we'll talk numbers at that time'.
i say this because if the skins didnt have any interest at all, they wouldnt have contacted him. zorn knows the guy, after all, so its not like he's thinking about whether or not he likes him. so i think zorn wants him, and (he and ceratto) is/are going about it smartly.
crazy??
skinsqc 03-08-2008, 12:35 PM It would be stupid to sign a receiever that we already have 3 that fits his mold.Got to get a possesion receiver for that 3rd and 7.
