jdlea 03-03-2008, 02:51 PM TMC, post the stats! If this is true let's keep Caldwell. What I saw in Hackett in the playoff game is a budding star, a playmaker. Caldwell's game didn't impress me the same. If Caldwell doesn't sign elsewhere (Is he the same highly coveted FA WR as Hackett and Johnson?) by all means, bring him back.
Caldwell:
Best season: 45 catches, 760 yards, 4 TD's, 16 Games
Worst season: 8 catches, 80 yards, 0 TD's, 9 Games
Career (5 seasons): 152 catches, 1851 yards, 11 TD's, 12.2 avg
Age: 28
Hackett:
Best season: 45 catches, 610 yards, 4 TD's, 14 Games
Worst season: 32 catches, 384 yards, 3 TD's, 6 Games
Career (3 seasons): 105 catches, 1394 yards, 9 TD's, 13.3 Avg
Age: 26
*I didn't feel like giving everything

Reche Caldwell:

DJ Hackett:

Again, similar stats. And one game does not an all star make. Much like one game does not a "bust" make (in Caldwell's case).
TheMalcolmConnection 03-03-2008, 02:54 PM Also, in case this thread gets too long, this isn't me saying that Caldwell is going to be our savior at WR. I think he would be a nice addition for depth and someone to make a few key catches.
For those that think we need a true number one, we simply don't have the cap to make it happen this year. But then again, I've been surprised before...
jdlea 03-03-2008, 02:56 PM But do you think we go after a number one or someone like Hackett or Johnson? Because pretty much our only options are breaking the bank for Walker (which we most likely would do considering his past track record) or trying to trade some draft picks to get another huge contract. Just this year I don't even think it's an option...
While I don't think Caldwell is a Pro Bowler by any means, I think he proved that he was sure handed and ran some great routes when given the chance. I'm saying a three to four year deal and see what the cap space we're left with gives us next year or the year after when we start to see some breathing room...
I don't know that anyone will be breaking the bank for Walker, but given the state of NFL free agency, I could be very surprised. If it's going to take more than $4-$5 mil a year for 3 years with Walker, I don't want him, but I'd give him that much.
I'd rather draft a guy in round 1 or 2 and have him be the number 2 and let Caldwell be number 4. Problem is, I don't think Caldwell can play teams, so that's left to Mix. It's not an easy situation, but I don't believe not getting a receiver is an option. I could see them drafting Harris from MSU or Manningham and be relatively pleased. I would rather have Limas Sweed, but my feeling is they can't stand pat...
Dirtbag59 03-03-2008, 02:57 PM I'd bring him in.................for the veteran minimum!
Obviously if we can bring him in for the $2-$3 million dollar range then I think he would be worth a look. And considering that Michael Turner got $5 million a year to play starting tailback for the Falcons then $2-$3 million is definately a possibility IMO.
But he started 15 games in the past two years and didn't exactly set the world on fire. And, as I've mentioned before, why is he stuck behind those guys anyway?
.
Well in all fairness to Johnson, if you're going to be stuck behind two guys, might as well be stuck behind two of the best.

I'm with you there. It's just been that this year has been nuts and he'll probably want a contract based on past production and not his last year. I mean look at Donte Stallworth and he was ALWAYS hurt. :(
Cooley1 03-03-2008, 03:22 PM I was just checking out the Wikipedia on Bryant Johnson and came up with this. It is saying that he has already signed with buffalo ??????
[edit] NFL Career
Johnson has played three years predominantly as a slot receiver for the Cardinals, frequently starting the game from the third receiver position. His 35 catches in 2003 was the third most receptions for a rookie (his teammate Anquan Boldin had the most receptions for a rookie that year)[1]. Johnson's career has been hampered by several injuries, but has not appeared in less than 13 games in his three professional seasons.
Johnson scored the inaugural touchdown at University of Phoenix Stadium, a 5-yard reception from Kurt Warner in the Arizona Cardinals preseason game on August 12, 2006.
He signed with the Bills, likely becoming the AFC East team's #2 wide receiver behind Lee Evans. Terms of the contract were not made available by the team.
He is represented by fellow Penn State alumnus Chafie Fields.

Wiki is "reporting" he signed with the Bills today. I guess some Bill's fan really wants him.

Wikipedia is good for understanding cool facts and getting the jist of certain topics, but I don't think its a really reliable news source. If I had to guess I'd say a PFT fan edited the page.
