Yeah, that's shocking to me. Absolutely shocking. This is a guy who spent months spitting venom at the Bears and their management and then he resigns with them? And just as surprising is the price. What a bargain! I never thought I'd see the day that Gibril Wilson got more on the open market than Lance Briggs.

I hate seeing us pass on Briggs at this price. That's a big time bargain for a guy of his caliber.

Such is life. We better draft well this year.

PFT is reporting that the Redskins pursued Briggs and offered him roughly the same deal the Bears did. The Bears definitely got Briggs at a good price; I would've thought he would have gotten a deal averaging $8 million per year with a signing bonus north of $16M. The deals being handed out are simply nuts.

According to PFT (so it's definitely allegedly) we offered him about the same, and he decided he'd rather stay for the same money.

Sounds shady to me. More likely Briggs' camp is leaking that info to save face a little. The market's a little crazy - linebackers are wildly unappreciated.

good deal for bears.

tommie harris is absolutely worth trading for. he's really young and we can't do any better in the draft.

Good job on all sides.

So, had Briggs come to the Redskins....he would have replaced McIntosh...but once McIntosh had healed...what then? I wonder if this affected his decision? Or maybe the fact that Williams is not here anymore?? Just curious.

Man it's amazing how the market was completely non-existent for him.

He really didn't even come back for all that much money.

Somewhat on-topic, do you guys think Tommie Harris is worth making a trade for?

I'm not surprised. Briggs is a good player but he's not a game changing type of linebacker and he doesn't rush the passer. And he probably wouldn't be as good in another defense. He made the right move and he's still gettting a ton of dough. 13 mil guar. isn't bad at all.

I don't think we need Harris. I think we're fine with who we have. We need a DE more than a tackle.

Signing Briggs would mean we're giving up on Rocky. Did you happen to see how well Rocky played before he got hurt? We're fine w/out Briggs and let's hope Rocky's knee's will hold up.

'SKINS MADE A PLAY FOR BRIGGS
Though the decision of linebacker Lance Briggs to re-sign with the Bears has created the impression that he had no options elsewhere, a league source tells us that the Redskins made a run at Briggs.
It was, per the source, "very close" between the Redskins and the Bears. In the end, Briggs decided given the similarity of the numbers to stay home.
Factoring in the $7.2 million salary he earned as a franchise player in 2007, Briggs will earn $28.8 million over four years.
Factoring in the Lamborghini he crashed and abandoned, the number is more like $28.3 million.
