Does anyone think our new approach has anything to do with Gibbs being the team advisor? Snyder may be a bad owner to some people, but one thing he is for sure is a believer in Gibbs. Maybe Joe is whispering in his ear a little this offseason.

That's partially it. But it's also that we've been pretty smart about free agency/trades (active, but making good choices for the most part) the last several years with the exception of 2006. Unfortunately for a lot of people their calendars go 2000, 2006, and now.

2006 wasn't all bad, I mean ARE and Carter are going to justify the money they got to come here. And Todd Collins, to everyones surprise, is no schlub.

You forgot about the great Adam Archuleta.

Yeah but Duckett, Lloyd, ArchuletaMore bad than good, no doubt, but we did get some value out of the FA haul that year, even though we wasted a lot of money.

Aside from ARE's punt returns, he did pretty good at wide reciever, most people expected like 500 yds out of him, and he ended up getting 700 yards.

I like ARE but i'm not sure he's a #2 reciever. He really hasn't done alot w/ punt returns either, so you could call him overpaid.

I'd be happy with the following
- FA WR (Johnson or Hackett)
- Stud D-Lineman on the first round (Calais Campbell anyone?)
- Add depth at CB/OL/DT positions with the lower rounds
- Maybe add depth at the above positions with a cheap free agent
- and the big one...less conservative offense that allows JC to use our offensive weapons effectively.

All perfect except I dont mind being a little conservative as long as it yields production from Cooley, Protis, and Sellers on the ground/short passes. We can wear out teams that way.

if not ARE then who??? he was the best #2 we had at the time we needed one. That is why we need to either draft a WR or pick up a FA. ARE is excellent in the slot and on specialty plays. He is an asset to any team and I would not call him any more overpaid than Archuleta, Lloyd, or some of the crazy FA deals that were put together by the Raiders, Jets, and Browns. ARE has shown hard work and stepped up when we needed him. IMO that merits a little overpaying.
