Just like we passed by teams in the past in free agency?

A lot of good that did during the season.

I think one more bad season and the 49ers will make EVERYONE forget about the 2000 Redskins.

They're trying to buy a team and it's not going to work. They still don't have a QB, and they still don't have any WR's.

We may be patient, but teams are passing us by this free agency. There were people out there we could make a play for and didn't. No play on Vilma? Dumb! He is young and talented, just didn't fit in the Jets scheme.

He's young and talented but his best position is in the middle in a 4-3. Why sign him when we've already got London Fletcher and a young guy in Blades backing him up? IMO we didn't need Vilma.

im against it this year..normally we go off spending too much money on OLDER over the hill players..but this year there was a fresh crop of good talent and i think we're taking a backseat so we won't be the "oh there goes the redskins spending again cliche"..bad move..sign good players and we'll be okay

I guess the front office is damned if they do, damned if they don't. When we go out a sign "young talent" ala Lloyd and Archuletta, they're morons. When we sit on the sidelines rather than giving Justin Smith (2 sacks) ridiculous money or trading picks for Jonathan Vilma (43 tackles last year) then they're morons. I am curious what truly worthwhile "young talent" is out there for good value and that would fit a "need" in this roster? Is it Calvin Pace at $22 million guaranteed? Asante Samuel at $9.5 million a year?

well you can't fault Vilma..he's been hurt most of the last two seasons. Really the Archuletta thing is to each his own.I like adam when he was with the rams and thought he would be the second coming on John Lynch..I would've bit on that one

I'd be happy with the following
- FA WR (Johnson or Hackett)
- Stud D-Lineman on the first round (Calais Campbell anyone?)
- Add depth at CB/OL/DT positions with the lower rounds
- Maybe add depth at the above positions with a cheap free agent
- and the big one...less conservative offense that allows JC to use our offensive weapons effectively

This way, we don't need to overspend in free agency, keep our picks, and maybe insure that in future seasons we don't need to re-structure 50 contracts to get under the cap. After all of us complaining of the crazy-spending approach to the offseason, we should be glad the team is going the conservative route.

In another bit of free agent news for the Redskins today, wide receiver D.J. Hackett did not accept the team's contract offer and plans to explore his options, a league source said.
"We're interested but it has to make sense for us," said Vinny Cerrato, Washington's executive vice president of football operations. "That's what we've said all along about the guys we like [in free agency], the money has to make sense, and that hasn't changed."

Translation...We don't have any money left!!!!

No...translation...we're not giving 40 mil to a guy who can't stay healthy and is a role player at best

while not exactly a FA signing i think the addition of d. hall is a pretty big off-season move.

I'm not really alluding that we should pay Hackett, but to the "new approach" to FA....translation...we don't have any money. I'll buy the new approach after a few smart offseasons in a row.
