Smith is a complete defensive lineman, he's not a one-dimensional pass rushing specialist. That's not a knock on Wilson by any means. Just that Smith can do so many things well.

Sorry Smooty, I didn't mean to diss your man-crush. :) I'm reading the Vikes are actively pursuing both him and Berrian. Well, if JS doesn't sign with the Redskins...he's dead to me!! :) Could you imagine the Vikings adding Smith and Madieu Williams. And then possibly trading for Rosenfels and signing Berrian? Not bad. And then possibly trading for Rosenfels and signing Berrian? Not bad. I know! That d-line is already nasty. Unfortunately Udeze has leukemia, so they need another end, and Smith would fit in nicely. If they can add a wideout who can catch and a half decent QB, imagine what Adrian Peterson could do? They played very well in the second half last year and I expect a dog fight between them and GB for that division. SFREDSKIN 02-29-2008, 03:43 PM He's due to come to SF for his first visit. He informed the Vikings the 49ers where first on the list. I read it somewhere, can't remember link. MTK 02-29-2008, 04:27 PM He's very durable- he's started all 16 games every year since 2002, but is he really that great?? His sack totals the past 4 seasons: 2, 7.5, 6, 8. 2 sacks last year in 16 starts?? Chris Wilson doubled that number last year and didn't start a single game. I don't know if I'd call Justin Smith a "baller." As SS alludes to he's a very solid all around player. You can't judge him on sacks alone. He'll never be a sack demon, but he plays the run well and plays with a high motor. I don't know if I'd call Justin Smith a "baller." Thats such a misleading statistic...Only coming in the game on 3rd and 16 is a lot different than having to tackle running backs every other down. How many sacks and tackles did the DT next to him have? Or the outside linebacker on his side? BleedBurgundy 02-29-2008, 04:35 PM Not to mention he draws a double team on the majority of snaps. This is one guy I would love to see us go and get. GMScud 02-29-2008, 04:42 PM As SS alludes to he's a very solid all around player. You can't judge him on sacks alone. He'll never be a sack demon, but he plays the run well and plays with a high motor. I never said the guy wasn't good. I understand he plays the run well and has a great motor, but has often been mentioned on this board as a pass-rush compliment to Andre Carter. I think we'd be better off drafting D-lineman than paying huge $$ for a guy like him. The FA market isn't that great this year. Guys are getting overpaid everywhere- $30M for Jerry Porter? $3M/yr for Cleo Lemon? $33M for Madieu Williams? I'm glad we're not a big player right now. MTK 02-29-2008, 04:46 PM I hear ya I don't want him either with the way these contracts are going again this year. |
