Spanky 02-27-2008, 04:57 PM I wouldn't mind Leftwich as a long term backup. Plus he is from DC, and that might rejuvenate his career. agreed! i, for one, am highly skeptical of todd collins' value as our primary backup now that we are no longer using al saunders' system. i think leftwich would be great in that role. especially now that he's been cut by 2 teams, i imagine his contract negotiating leverage is about nil. J. Spanky 03-12-2008, 11:24 AM justin hartwig was just cut by the panthers (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/football/nfl/03/11/bc.fbn.panthers.hartwig.ap/index.html) back-up center is one of our most pressing needs, IMO. i'd like us to address that need in the draft but i think we'd do well to add a veteran, like hartwig, as well. TheMalcolmConnection 03-12-2008, 11:28 AM As a depth signing, I was thinking the same thing myself today. Longtimefan 03-12-2008, 11:58 AM thought we should have one thread to debate the pros and cons of all the various players who will be released from their current teams over the coming weeks and months and whether or not the redskins should consider signing them. ty law has been released by the chiefs and i think he would be a good upgrade over david macklin www.kansascity.com | 02/27/2008 | Chiefs to release Law, Bell, Reed, Dunn (http://www.kansascity.com/news/breaking_news/story/508144.html) Look for the team to try to find players. If there is someone released form another team that they feel can help us get better, look for consideration to be given. I'm sure there will be some players that get a look-see. Not sure Ty Law has a great deal left for what he would want to play for. skinsfan69 03-12-2008, 12:11 PM SmootSmack: You want scrap heap? I'll give you scrap heap... Darwin Walker is available. Please don't let him come here. Fred Miller is available. Leads the league in false starts. Javon Kearse is likely to be available. Can't play anymore Byron Leftwich and Trent Green are avaialble. Caveat Emptor!!! Does anyone know what's going on with Leftwich?? Is he that bad that he can't even get a back-up job????? freddyg12 03-12-2008, 12:44 PM Does anyone know what's going on with Leftwich?? Is he that bad that he can't even get a back-up job????? He's had an ankle & knee problem that I don't think he's ever recovered from. Don't know if that's what's keeping teams away, but his long wind up motion combined w/his unhealthy legs makes his delivery extra slow. Essentially, he telegraphs his passes and they turn into "ninners." ninners = slang for interceptions see also "into", "pick", "hot one", & "brick" GTripp0012 03-12-2008, 01:57 PM We do need secondary help of the veteran variety. There's not much harm in a one year deal, but this is the kind of deal I would make in July if Law is still around and still wants to play. I would not jump on him right now, because he will want to negotiate a multi year deal. If some team is foolish enough to give multiple years to Ty Law, then let them. If we can get him for ~2 million dollars for a single year 3 months from now, we will gain a lot of helpful depth if Carlos Rogers suffers a setback in rehab. GTripp0012 03-12-2008, 02:00 PM Does anyone know what's going on with Leftwich?? Is he that bad that he can't even get a back-up job?????Teams misevaluate QBs all the time. Leftwich will sign on somewhere, but no team has an opening at starting QB, so barring something happening to the starter of whatever team he signs on for, he's probably not going to get another chance. Early career injuries can derail a promising career, even for a player who continues to learn the tricks of the trade from the sidelines. Players who are injury prone don't get financial committments, and any QB without a financial committment will take the blame whenever anything goes wrong. He's an easy scapegoat. |
