GridIron26 02-25-2008, 03:02 AM I say we go with Reed and see how it works out.
I agree with this - we gotta give Reed a chance to prove himself.. He did great playing SS last few games.. However this is very tempting, Huff did not really shine like he was supposed to.. Coming here, could be a good change.. I would not mind if we go after him but only for a round for 2nd day of draft..
dmek25 02-25-2008, 07:42 AM i thought Doughty played well enough last season to at least have a shot. i say no to Huff.
skinzaholic73 02-25-2008, 09:22 AM yeah I like Doughty.I think we need to stick with him. Can't afford Huff anyway.Might not be bad to pick up somebody late in the draft though.
sandtrapjack 02-25-2008, 09:29 AM Please find another source. I don't trust PFT for anything. Mainly becasue the amount of rumors they've put out that were way off base makes the chances of this being true minimal. PFT reminds me of those magazines you see at the checkout lines in grocery stores with stories like "Satans face spoted over Capital Building" or "Donald Trumps Gay Affair."
Also Freddyg12 your forgetting that if Huff screws up we can release him without any cap penelty since the Raiders will get charged for the signing bonus. Making us responsible only for his base salary.
Yet still, please find another source.
Concur! ProFootballtalk.com is the sports equivalant of the National Enquirer.
And if anyone thinks they are going to get a first round pick (Huff), for a late round pick, you need to change drugs. They are clouding your common sense thinking!
This is an unsubstantiated rumor, nothing more. I can't see anything that would make the Raiders WANT to get rid of Huff.
QBall 02-25-2008, 10:02 AM In 32 games with the Raiders Huff has 165 tackles, 1 pick (last year), 1 sack (last year), and in 06' only 1 pass defended but last year 11.
If he is available he's definately worth a long hard look. Seems like we could coach him up and make him better, look what we did for Doughty!
SKINSnCANES 02-25-2008, 10:53 AM why does everyone think we cant afford huff, did anyone say 'we cant afford taylor'?
Taylor was the 5th pick the year before huff was the 7th, so they are probably similar money, if anythign taylor was a little bit more. And the 3rd year of a rookie contract, it cant be that bad.
anyone have the figures?
and im not saying huff is better than taylor, im speaking purely about the fact that the skins as a team value paying two top safeties
BleedBurgundy 02-25-2008, 10:57 AM If Oakland is ready to give up on him after 2 seasons I say no thanks
I am in no way advocating dealing for Huff but I don't think that Oakland's personnel evaluation is exactly "world class." Honestly, I think I'd be more inclined to take a chance on a player discarded by an organization with such a shoddy history of personnel evaluation as opposed to a castoff from a team like the patriots. If the pats let someone go, there's probably something wrong with them or they want way too much money. The raiders are just incompetent.
(isn't great to have a team like the Raiders in the league so we can feel better about the skins!)
rscalder 02-25-2008, 12:12 PM I remember him from the Texas v. USC title game, he is definitely a good player but why are they getting rid of him so early? First warning sign, although it is the Raiders. I think we have to ideal safeties right now. Reed seems to me like what they thought Archulata was suppose to be, but without the heavy contract. I think we go with something in another post, get a savvy veteran to use in nickel and dime situations who may also tutor the Landry and Doughty. Just my opinion.

I think Landry proved the only tutor he needed was Taylor and his coaches. He had a great rookie season and if healty I expect:
100+ tackles, 5+ picks, 5+ sacks, 10+ pd, PRO BOWL in 08'.

I feel you & others on the source, this doesn't sound like a viable story. Then again, it's Al Davis & he's getting crazier, e.g., writing a resignation letter for his coach.
As for the cap hit, I think you're right that all of Huff's bonus would accelerate to the Raiders cap as dead money, but I don't know that we wouldn't take any cap hit by cutting him. If we inherit the contract & he's due a roster bonus, we'd have to pay him or cut him & take the same dead money cap hit. It all depends on his contract & the deal the two teams work out, but to my knowledge I don't think there's much chance that you could acquire Huff w/out having a significant cap impact.
