Updating a previous item, Tom Silverstein, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports Green Bay Packers LB Nick Barnett entered into a plea agreement that will allow him to avoid a criminal conviction after a nightclub incident last summer. A pair of misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges against Barnett will be dropped if he meets the requirements of the agreement. The first charge will be reduced to a non-criminal ordinance violation and the other charge will be dropped if Barnett can avoid arrest until a potential sentencing date July 2, complete an anger-management course and pay a $500 forfeiture. Barnett has already completed the anger-management course.

Stan Olson, of The Charlotte Observer, reports free-agent WR D.J. Hackett (Seahawks) has strong interest in playing for the Carolina Panthers, according to his agent, Kevin Robinson. "His goal is to play for a playoff contender and he thinks the Panthers will be that with their quarterback (Jake Delhomme) healthy again," Robinson said.
