Cowboys sign LB ThomasStuck in TX 02-23-2008, 05:54 PM he'll be injured by week 3 and in and out for the rest of the season, be cut next season, then sign back with the 'Fins in 2009 to officially retire with the team. Dirtbag59 02-23-2008, 05:57 PM Does anyone know why Zach Thomas is able to be signed when Free Agency doesnt start for another week? Just wondering. Apparently if you're a free agent before the start of Free Agency (ie got cut after the season or sat home all year) then you're allowed to sign with a new team. This doesn't include guys who contracts expired so for example Rock Cartwright can't test the market until free agency opens up. That way teams can use their temporary exclusive negotating rights to retain player before the start of Free Agency. Longtimefan 02-23-2008, 06:47 PM Thomas has [emphasis on has] been a fine player for a long time, injuries have set him back the last couple years. He might find sledding a little tough in the NFC east being a 228lb MLB, if it's Dallas's intent to play him at that position. There's a big difference between the NFC east & the AFC east............Good Luck!! dblanch66 02-23-2008, 08:07 PM F. dallas. I thought he just agreed to terms sandtrapjack 02-23-2008, 11:26 PM F. dallas. Yeah they suck! Hey wait a minute! BrunellMVP? 02-23-2008, 11:49 PM Well I think the signing was done as a favor to Rosenhaus. He just happens to represent Marion Barber as well and they are in contract talks. In fact I think the whole meeting with Thomas was done as a favor to Rosenhaus. a favor to Rosenhaus? why? unless the Boy's were the only place Zach wanted to play, that makes no sense. Its not as if nobody else wanted his services. Rosenhaus wasn't in a position of weakness...why would he need a favor? Campbell17 02-24-2008, 12:25 AM Good Pickup, even though we are still gonna win at dallas and at home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sandtrapjack 02-24-2008, 12:40 AM a favor to Rosenhaus? why? unless the Boy's were the only place Zach wanted to play, that makes no sense. Its not as if nobody else wanted his services. Rosenhaus wasn't in a position of weakness...why would he need a favor? From all indications I ave read, Dallas was not the one who intitiated contact with respect to Thomas. Thomas has the same agent as a number of players on the team and hence the agent marketed his client. Due to a long standing relationship with the agent, the Cowboys agreed to talk to Thomas. And he came at a price that is affordable. Not to mention if he does not make the grade at camp and gets cut, there is zero cap hit. But on the outside of it all......I smell a trade. jsarno 02-24-2008, 12:59 AM On a side note Thomas deal is potentially worth 11 million dollars. LOL...holy crap! If that's true, the Cowboys are dumber than I thought. Sure Thomas is still a good LB, but his serious concussion issues are too much to ignore, and no way he will be worth it. |
