Skins4Life101 02-21-2008, 10:19 PM If we dont pick up a big name FA WR, and settle for Hackett, we are DEFINATELY going to go for a big time WR in the 2nd and possibly again in the later rounds.
We need WR Depth just a smidgen less than OLine help.

If we get Hackett, I don't think we will go after a WR until the 5th or later rounds. We will have Moss, ARE, Hackett, Mix and either (Caldwell, McMullen, Espy, Harris or Mann), not a bad WR corps with Hackett and hopefully a developing Mix (6'5" 230+, huge target and threat in the red zone).
Our needs at DL, CB, OL & LB outweigh our need at WR.

That would give us Moss, ARE, Hackett, and a 2nd rounder on top of Mix, Lloyd, Thrash, etc. I would think that would be overkill, don't you?
EARTHQUAKE2689 02-21-2008, 10:34 PM The florence thing is good pickup, and I can get on board of the Hackett pickup
Slingin Sammy 33 02-21-2008, 10:39 PM Little info on Florence:
On Sunday, January 14 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/January_14), 2007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007) in the AFC Divisional Playoff (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_playoffs%2C_2006-07#AFC:_New_England_Patriots_24.2C_San_Diego_Charg ers_21) game against the New England Patriots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_England_Patriots) after a muffed punt by wide receiver Eric Parker (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Parker_%28American_football%29) at the San Diego 31 yard line, Florence committed a personal foul, head-butting Patriot TE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tight_end) Daniel Graham (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Graham) following a 3rd and long play.[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drayton_Florence#_note-2) During the play, the Charger defense had stopped the Patriots for a 7 yard loss putting the ball at the Charger 37 yard line (apx. 53 yard field goal range). The result of the penalty was a Patriots first down on the Charger 18. The extension of the drive led to a Stephen Gostkowski (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Gostkowski) 34 yard field goal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_goal_%28football%29). The Patriots went on to win the game 24-21.[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drayton_Florence#_note-3)
The NFL fined San Diego Chargers cornerback Drayton Florence $15,000 for the illegal hit he put on Houston Texans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Houston_Texans) Quarterback Matt Schaub (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Schaub) on Sunday October 28th. On an interception return, Florence drilled Schaub from the blind side, and he was penalized 15 yards for unnecessary roughness. The league ruled that on a change of possession, Florence unnecessarily made helmet-to-helmet contact with Schaub, who suffered a concussion and missed the rest of the game.
Character is always a concern, but he has good size 6', 200lbs, ran a sub 4.4 in the combine and scored a 22 on the Wonderlic (higher than average for a CB). Outside of the playoff FUBAR, I haven't heard of him being a problem even after being demoted by the play of Cromartie.
EARTHQUAKE2689 02-21-2008, 10:44 PM I think that lloyd and thrash and maybe espy will be cut so it is not out the realm of possibility that we could go after a devin thomas or a adrius bowman in the 2nd round

If Moss is our #1, Hackett is our #2, ARE is our #3, and we go after Thomas or Bowman for our #4, we'd likely end up cutting Lloyd, Thrash, and Mix. I'm not sure a #4 WR is worth an early first day pick, particularly when we have needs at DT, DE, CB, SS, and all along our 30+ y.o. o-line.

I know it is unlikely I am just saying it is still possible
skinsfan69 02-21-2008, 11:17 PM JLC is reporting (http://blog.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/) that league insiders expect the Redskins to pursue Chargers CB Drayton Florence. My guess is that, if we go after Florence (who will likely assume nickel and dime duties), we will draft a D-lineman in the 1st round.
JLC is also reporting that the Redskins are targeting Seahawks WR D.J. Hackett. If we pursue Hackett, it's unlikely that the Redskins will use a 1st rounder on a wideout, unless they plan to demote ARE or Hackett to 4th WR spot.
JLC is also speculating that the Redskins may be unable to afford to sign Bears LB Lance Briggs, with cap-rich teams like the 49ers going after him. So, the people that hate to see the Redskins go after high-priced free agents may get their wish as we are unlikely to pursue marquee free agents like Briggs.
We can't afford Briggs and we don't need him. I like the possible Hackett signing. Also if Florence is signed does that mean the end for Springs?
Skins4Life101 02-21-2008, 11:18 PM I am not convinced Hackett is the answer that we need. Unless there is a growing emphatuation with Mix, or they are going to seek a big body in the later rounds (Marcus Monk in the 4th?) I would be VERY uncomfortable with this pickup. He reminds me of Brandon Lloyd for some reason.
Speaking of Lloyd, is he done and out of our plans for next year?
