Lets overpay for Jared AllenSmootSmack 02-18-2008, 10:40 PM ESPN - Chiefs to put franchise tag on Allen, who wants to stay - NFL (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3252292) jsarno 02-18-2008, 10:47 PM ESPN - Chiefs to put franchise tag on Allen, who wants to stay - NFL (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3252292) not a surprise there. Beemnseven 02-18-2008, 11:10 PM Yeah, I've got mixed feeling about that. I hear what they're saying about Marcus Washington and Chris Wilson together being effective pass rushers. But why not just get one guy who can do that? And I thought they were pretty content with Montgomery and Golston's progress. Of course, if they get a DE I don't think he should be a pass-rushing specialist like Wilson. He needs to be able to play the run effectively as well. The top three D-tackles are Griffin, Montgomery, and Golston. With Griffin getting a little long in the tooth, they'd probably be a bit more comfortable with one more solid guy in the middle. To me, Golston will always be #3 in the D-tackle rotation. D.C. Brave 02-18-2008, 11:17 PM Corey Williams would be the perfect compliment to our team...let's get him NOW! Beemnseven 02-18-2008, 11:17 PM If Calais Campbell or Phillip Merling fall to us IMO we need to take one of them. I think the production of Washington and Wilson had a lot to do with scheme rather than straight up physically beating the OL. I'm with you, there is no substitute for a DE that can physically dominate his man in both the pass & run game. (The Giants looked pretty good doing it, and Mario Williams is making Casserly look like a genius for passing on Bush). I think Cerrato may also be throwing out a little smoke-screen prior to the combine and draft. From what I've read, Casserly can get neither the credit for taking Williams, nor the blame for passing on Bush because it was Bud Adams who wasn't willing to put up the big time money Bush was going to get as the #1 pick. So Casserly was only following the owners' orders. Funny how quickly Reggie Bush fell completely out of the limelight. In New Orleans, they're all but certain he'll never be the prime RB -- McAllister is still the go-to guy. Beemnseven 02-18-2008, 11:42 PM One more thing about DEs -- just got finished checking the stats for our boy Chris Clemons from a few years back. He had 8 sacks for the Raiders in '07 as a linebacker. Wonder what his contract situation is? Was it a one year thing? He was one I never thought we should have let get away. Doubt he would want to come back though. FRPLG 02-19-2008, 12:23 AM Funny how it's ok to overpay for certain guys. Funny how when we overpay for certain guys and they work out that DS and the FO don't get credit for that. That Guy 02-19-2008, 12:25 AM He is a UFA. Doubt he would want to come back though. the guy that let him go is in jacksonville. i doubt he cares either way, though his job stability is probably better (in the short term) in oakland... that is, until kiffin gets axed. Campbell17 02-19-2008, 12:27 AM I still think the draft is where we get our much needed DEs at this point. |
