My counterpoint was not intended to slight your point about Coles. Check the record here on our support of him when that news came out. IIRC we mods were zero tolerance on anyone who broached that subject matter in a lighthearted manner.

My point (and I do have one) is that Coles put himself in a bad situation here by demanding a trade when he didn't like the offense in 2004 (despite catching 90 passes, he thought he was being misused). He appears to be putting himself in a bad situation in New York now by stating he need to be taken care of financially, despite collecting more bonus money in the past five years than nearly every player in the game.

As a boy, Coles was the victim of an unspeakable crime. That is completely seperate from his professional travails now.

Like I said. I opened a can of worms and I'm sorry. I let my emotions get the best of me on a touchy subject. If anything I wish we could delete all my posts and the responses to the subject I brought up. This whole ordeal turned into an unintentional troll.

If anything the Warpath is a place for discussing Football, and more specifically Redskin football. My post is completly off topic and is relatively close to producing the same effect that the trolls produced during certain events over the past year.

Right now I just want to get back to talking Redskin football, and discuss how we're going to get rid of our picks this year.

This is the reason I got kicked off the board years ago... Why would I go by the name EXoffender?

If Coles were a free agent now he would not get a big deal...he's not as good as he thinks he is and he's hit 30.

Don't like Coles. Liked him when he came on board with the redskins, but began complaining about not getting enough balls???? 90 BALLS ISN"T ENOUGH? Then he wouldn't get surgery on his toe, which to this day hasn't healed right. It is not worth the trouble to get him involved.

Wrong, he had TWO GREAT years with the SKINS. If you where to remember in 2003 he also made the Pro Bowl.

You would almost rather have BL.....huh, that piece of shit hasn't even had A GOOD GAME IN DC in two years!
An overexzageration, or however it is spelled. He was solid I guess but he has lost his touch.

36 posts on this thread and no one has hit the real meat of this story. Coles isn't complaining that he's underpaid. He's complaining that the Jets lied to him and misled him about their intentions, stringing him along and repeatedly putting off an extension. If they promised him an extension, then praised him for his toughness and selflessness, then state their reason for not signing him as lack of production... that's pretty bogus if you ask me. Especially coming from a team with huge QB issues, and poor running game, and a lousy offensive line. It's not like he stunk up the joint with Peyton Manning throwing to him. Clemens is totally unproven and Pennington couldn't throw a football through a wet paper towel.

Coles is a leader on that team and the one constant on an otherwise anemic offense. They should resign him. He and Cotchery are a pretty good tandem. Bottom line is the Jets are cheap.

I'm sure Pete Kendall would agree with that

If they said they'd extend him and don't, it's a tough break. If they said they'd "take care of him," they have offered to guarantee his salary. That's a big deal.

did anyone see the Jets's official website a few years ago right before the Coles/Moss trade? there was a giant 87 and the words "Bring Back Coles". All I remember thinking is how bad that must have made Moss feel, and how much those fans liked Coles... I bet Coles wishes the Jets felt the same way.
