He hasn't won a game yet and you think we got it right?

Hasn't lost a game yet either, and yet some say this is the worst decision since the dawn of time.

I'm kinda indifferent to this head coaching hire. I'm always hopefully optimistic but this hire has my head spinning and I feel like I just got off a merry-go-round. First Joe Gibbs retires, then Greg Williams interviews four times and seems like the guy, then Dan Snyder interviews everyone and their brother, then Snyder releases Al Saunders and Greg Williams, now it looks like Fassel is the guy, no let's wait until the Superbowl is over so we can talk to Spagnuolo, he turns downs the job, so the Redskins hire Jim Zorn as head coach when nobody knew he was a candidate. Whew! I'm dizzy. I hope this all works out.

Just to be clear, it has been my experience and history has shown that new coaches don't win right out of the gate. Also, I don't have a problem with Zorn in particular but Snyder and his hiring "process." I hope for my sanity's sake Zorn wins.

Mangini, Payton, and Tomlin have all fared well in their first seasons in recent years.

Good point...I suppose there is an inkling of hope.

Not to throw a damp blanket on the warm and fuzzy sentiment here, but Mangini went 10-6 first year and 4-12 in his second. Sean Payton went from 10-6 and a TOUGH team, to a lucky 7-9, cause they looked a lot worse when they started the season. Of course, we won't know how tomlin does in his second season til this year. Also, there are other teams that had first year coaches that sucked like Petrino.
The thing that Zorn has going for him is that he takes over a pretty talented team.

yeah I hear that, I was just trying to point out that new head coaches have had some success recently, at least in their first years.

I wanted GW to get the job like most everyone else. Of course, I must admit to having visions of Petitbon dancing in my head as well. We can argue all day about whether Petitbon was given a real chance at HC or not, but I do have a question.

How many DC's have there been that were promoted within their own team and had any real success as head coach?
