I made this thread because I just downloaded Foxit Reader, and it is so much better than Adobe Reader because it takes up less space, less RAM, allows you to edit PDFs and is free.
I am sure many Warpathers know other sweet programs that are free and/or better than most mainstream ones. Another one I can think of is the web browser Firefox over IE. A lot less viruses, cleaner, and easier IMO.
Any others?

Thunderbird for email, 7-zip for compression, Ashampoo (when its free) for disc burning, Pidgin for IM, AVG Free for AV, and lots and lots of others that are not coming to me right now.
I still use MS Office, but OpenOffice is a viable alternative.

Ah, good call TMC. I use both Real Alternative and QuickTime Alternative. Both free.
I also use VLC a lot, too.

Forget Photoshop, get THE GIMP for free. :)
GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program (http://www.gimp.org/)
AVG Free Antivirus works great.

SourceForge.net: Welcome to SourceForge.net (http://www.sourceforge.net) is a great place to get open source software. I use PDFCreator at home to print PDF files. Thanks for the head's up on Foxit Reader...
I use 7Zip, VLC, CDBurnerXP (great free burning software), theGIMP is a great free alternative to Photoshop, Inkscape is comparable to Adobe Illustrator.
