Interesting article on the health status of Carlos Roger and Rocky McIntosh. The most significant part of it was how it relates to keeping Shawn Springs and not going after Lance Briggs.....

"Cornerback Carlos Rogers likely won't be healthy for the start of the season, but linebacker Rocky McIntosh will. Rogers' prolonged absence makes the retention of high-priced cornerback Shawn Springs more likely, while McIntosh's earlier return makes the signing of free agent linebacker Lance Briggs of the Chicago Bears less likely."

McIntosh should be back long before Rogers - - The Washington Times, America's Newspaper (http://www.washingtontimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080214/SPORTS01/119963368/1005/SPORTS)

Good to hear about Rocky.

With Springs not getting any younger and Rogers not expected back until during the season I definitely think this bumps CB up to a pretty high priority for this offseason.

I heard on Sportstalk 980 that "Costly Corner Shawn Springs is staying with the burgundy and gold."

Lance Briggs has character issues as well. I'm not too hot on that. I think we should draft a corner as well.

The concern with Rocky is that this could become (if it hasn't already) a chronic problem with his knees, and in addition there are some concerns about Marcus Washington's health. And add to that Godfrey's possible retirement then I don't think Briggs is such a long shot. Though I think if forced to choose they are more likely to go after a WR in free agency/trade and draft a linebacker

As for Rogers. Well that combined with Springs' age is the main reason why I keep clamoring for Talib or Cason to be our first round pick.

Don't forget about H.B. Blades...he could provide depth in some way. I also think that finding a serviceable LB is not the hardest thing in the league today whereas finding CB depth is one of the hardest things to get. Also, if there are concerns about replacing Washington in the future, I think its realistic to expect to pick up a starting LB in the 2009 draft. I don't think an aging/oft injured Springs and an unimpressive/currently injured Rogers is our solution for the future at CB. I say defensively in this draft/offseason our top priorities should be:
1) a pass rushing DE
2) A starting CB
3) Another secondary member (either a CB or a safety that can play nickel/dime coverage and contribute on special teams)...hopefully groomed to be a starter down the line
4) Then if we have cap room or picks a backup LB.

Yeah it still wouldn't surprise me to see us go after Briggs regardless of Rocky's status.

I think that's great. I love Springs, and I'm very happy he will remain a Redskin. I'm hoping the same for Smoot.

I love him too but are we going to win the division with Smoot and Springs at corner all year? We could not doubt if healthy. Just hope that Springs works his ass off to lose a little weight and get quicker but when you start getting up there in age its not easy. He got burned in the Seahawks game and I think he just lacks the speed at this stage. I'm not sure what Free Agency has to offer but a round one corner may be best for us right now.

Carlos Rogers just never really hit his potential and I"m afraid he may be done here if he can't produce this year.

That's what I'm hoping for! I never liked him and thought he was a waste of money.
