With Gibbs gone, Snyder is regaining his reputation and a terrible, meddling owner. I'm not too concerned about what others in the NFL think, but I am worried how this coaching search has become such a mess (and that Vinny C. remains in the front office).

I don't think there was ever any concrete evidence of Mora Jr. being offered the job. Just rumors and speculation.

Spags came into a similar situation in NY, he came in as the DC with his assistants already in place and it wasn't an issue for him then.

I wasn't real sure about the Mora thing, just hear say. with spags though, this is a different situation. Being brought in as a DC working with people there, and being the head guy working with current staff is a bit different. He didn't have really any say in who was in NY, but being the head guy, he should want / does want control over who he brings in. All in all, I am glad neither of those guys are in the mix anymore anyway.

At this point, I just want it over and done with. this is just getting old.

Prisco's Points - CBSSports.com (http://cbs.sportsline.com/columns/weblogs/entry/10612907)

From CBS Sportsline commentator Pete Prisco:

When does a coordinator job become more valuable than a head-coaching position?

When Dan Snyder is the guy with the top job.

Although there is no official word on whether the Washington Redskins job was offered to New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, he is staying put in New York. Spagnuolo will get a new three-year deal from the Giants, one that reports say will pay him over $3 million a season.

Even with the raise, why turn down a possible chance to be a head coach?
Why? How about a meddling owner? How about assuming two coordinators who are already there? How about a personnel chief who is Snyder's shadow?

So why take the job?

I'm a big believer in the value of NFL head-coaching jobs. There are only 32 of them, and you never know when the shine will come off your career. So if you can, I usually say take the job.

In this case, Spagnuolo probably made the right decision. If he's really being paid near $3 million a season, the Giants might be going to $6 million a season for Tom Coughlin's extension, which is coming.

it was gibbs who hired saunders,so i would say thats backing him,as for wiliams, yes i would have rather he hired him and see how it worked out
Has snyder got along with anybody besides gibbs?
Well I guess know thing about Willams that no one else knows. Did williams even want to keep Saunders? Did he want to keep the other coaches on staff? Heck, did he even wnat to keep JC and other players? Those are questions that at this point no one knoows the answers to so to say Snyder passed him but and screwed up the team is just a guess until we have the answers to some of those answers.

JLC said Williams would have kept Saunders for the sake of continuity for Campbell but he would have made him condense his playbook and simplify things more.

You've got to ask yourself "Would I work for Snyder?"

Hell, if I were Fassel I would pull out too. I'm surprised he is still around seeing how he is just a bootycall.

hahaha never thought of it that way but youre right, fassel is the ugly chick with big tits you keep around for when your desperate.

go skins!

Which is ironic, because how many times did we hear how Gibbs was handcuffing the offense by making Saunders condense the playbook and simplify things. Would we have had "Grandpa Williams" "Game Has Passed Williams By" threads?

I have been a huge backer of snyder in the regards that he wants to win and spends tons of money trying(good or bad) But, this latest debacle of a coaching search makes it difficult to defend. GW had the backing of the players, these players loved GW. We saw for 4 years how these guys didn't lay down, or throw in the towel especially when we were losing badly those two years. I think it damages the moral of the players when the owner doesn't listen to the hearts of his players or common sense for that matter. The reason GW isn't here is because he wanted some control, and we will all have to face it, that with Dan and Vinny no coach of any quality will take this job if he cant have some control. Fassell, Mariucci,Meeks all want to be head coaches and will settle for about anything to get back in the game. The other guys Cowher, Spags, Mora, Carroll know they can not work under those rules and pulled out, or never even concidered the job. Dan Snyder has taken the easiest decision he would have ever had and turned it into a 3 ring circus and again has us as the laughing stock of the NFL. We have let a great person, and coach walk out the door when all we had to do was move him into the position and we could have kept going in the same direction we were going in. I dont understand the impatience of this front office, never wanting to build on success. they want to try and make radical changes to push us over the top, but those changes have done nothing but make us take a few steps back the years after we take 1 step forward.
I am just tired of all the BS, hire someone and lets get on with it. We are all ready behind 31 other teams in the NFL as far as getting ready for the draft. Oh wait, maybe not. I am sure Danny and Vinny all ready have the kid they want to draft, they just have to tell fassell who they are drafting.
what a joke this organization has become

I don't know if you specifically fall under this category, but I think it's pretty unbelievable that people make such a big stink about "We need a General Manager" "It's too much for the coach to handle both coaching and personnel moves" yet so many of these same people are upset because we're not giving control to first time coaches like Meeks and Spags or guys like Williams and Carroll.

Smack, I truly admire your courage and loyalty, as a true Redskin fan. However after reading every single post in this thread, it seems obvious you're beating a dead horse. This topic has been hashed, and rehashed so many times it's about as old as dirt. I just wish Sally Jenkins would stay under the covers.
