Well aren't they expecting an announcement today?

I know Danny wants Fassel, so perhaps he gave Spags and Mooch really bad offers knowing they would reject. Therefore it looks like those coaches left and gave Danny no option but Fassel, which in turn makes him look better amongst the fans.

I'm not sure about the announcement today part. Could very well be?

But I would doubt very seriously that if Dan wanted Spags or Mooch he would low ball them on the contract offer. If Dan wanted either one of them cash would not be the hold up. Nor have I heard from any source that ANYONE has been offered the job at this point.

Can we just stop with the 'retread' talk now?

After all, a retread just won the damn Super Bowl, and he beat another retread no less.

Next topic.

So why stop at Grimm then? I guess they should just interview anyone and everyone with that logic.

I just don't understand those that have a hard-on for Grimm. I can easily see why teams would be intersted in Mooch over him. Mooch has a proven track record in this league, Grimm doesn't have HC experience. What else is there to say?

Talk about taking it out of context. Viable candidates are just that, candidates that have a viable shot of being a HC in the NFL. Grimm was up for the Pittsburgh job. You don't have to interview everyone, but how about a slightly better list than the one they came up with. Matty, you can't be that thrilled with this list of candidates, can you?

Well. All this probably means is that Fassel will be the new HC after all. Might as well just lay back, kick up our heels and wait for the announcement. No point in anymore speculation. (Though Meeks is still available...)

We should be happy for a 'retread' since retreads have won 9 of the last 11 Super Bowls!

Fassel is the only one that makes sense now. Probably the only one that made sense from the time that they installed the staff (the Mariucci connections notwithstanding). I'd say, if you wanted to be fair about the whole thing, a Fassel hiring actually reflects well on Dan Snyder.

Not the 'big splash' pick. Who knows what went down, but I'm going to say that if Snyder had really made the big push for Spagnuolo he probably could have gotten him here. Maybe it will be reported out differently, but as of this moment I'll give Snyder credit for avoiding the erge to jump on the hot assistant (an erge that the fan in me succumbed to) and - assuming that he wasn't just straight up spurred by Spagnuolo - actually shows a level of maturity that I have heretofore not given him credit for having.
It is basically Fassel's staff that is in place, to bring someone else in very well could have proven problematic. Hiring Fassel would also allow them to at least say that hiring the staff was part of a larger plan (to bring in Fassel) rather than just some desire to throw the whole organization into flux for the sake of change. They can at least say that bringing in Spagnuolo was necessary to do their due dilligence, and perhaps to gather some information, but that Fassel was the plan all along barring something really unforseen. In the end Fassel is the logical choice, given the course of events, and Snyder's ability to navigate the hype surrounding Spagnuolo when so many others couldn't, including myself, is a sign of growth. Barring something out of left field (and your next coach of the Washington Redskins ... Pete Carroll!) I'd say a Fassel hire actually redeems Snyder in my eyes at least. My sense is that the feeling has cooled considerably (another credit to Snyder) surrounding Fassel and that his hire won't cause that public outcry that it would have a couple of weeks ago. That being said, if anyone still feels compelled to give up their season tickets as a result, please let me know :)

I think you're too smart for this site.

Sorry but Grimm wouldn't make the list any more legitimate to me. Sure Grimm was up for the Pitt job but he got passed up for a complete unknown.

Fassel or Mooch are solid choices considering what's available. Guys with proven track records, and Fassel has been to a SB.

At least the Bears were interested in Adam Archuleta before we made the savvy move to steal him. NOBODY is interested in Fassil, for any position, and I just have to think that there is a reason. Snyder and Vinny do not know better that the rest of the NFL, they've earned that much. They've painted themselves into a corner, and this is plain to see.
