ESPN - Source: Mora reaches deal to be Hawks' head coach once Holmgren retires - NFL (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3233051)
Do you think this a good move for the Hawks?
I think it's a good move. I thought he was a good young coach on the rise with ATL.

I don't see the need for that announcement...what if the hawks are 5-11 with the worst defense in the league next year? Do you really want to promote Mora at that point? It seems to me that they over reacted to the Redskins interest in him. I didn't see the rest of the league lining up to hire him.

Looking back I would have liked Mora as long as he came with Zorn. However from the look of things Mora pretty much insist on working with Knapp who I don't trust as an OC.

On the other hand, in '05 when GW brought the skins D to an elite top 5 status, he was thought to be a head coaching candidate and we rewrote that clause into his contract to lock him up as Gibb's successor. Now with 20-20 hindsight we can see what that was really worth. There isn't any guarantee in this case either. The NFL is so different from year to year and new trends are being started all the time

I really don't know what to think of this cause it's so unique. I don't think I've ever heard of this before.

Well the Colts have done it with Caldwell, the Cowboys with Garrett (some rumors of the Giants offering it to Spags). It's the new in thing. Rams did it with Martz too
Matty's doing it with SGG (uh oh, spoke too soon)

I thought that was all "talk" though, nothing written in stone, and no one is retiring in a year (ie: Wilson etc.). For instance, Garrett isn't guarenteed the position because no one knows when Wilson is retiring.

Caldwell is officiall, as was Martz. I think you're right that Garrett is just speculation
