Caveman say "Search suck!"

I don't understand the point of waiting 30 seconds between searches. In my opinion it encourages a lot of the more trigger happy users on the site to ignore the search feature and start duplicate threads. Also if you accidnetly spell something wrong or decide that it would be better to narrow your search to thread titles then you have to wait 30 seconds and this in my opinion prevents people from covering their bases.

Better to get locked then then spend 5 minutes performing 10 searches to make sure theres no possible way that someone has discussed a topic in recent memory. So with that said is there anyway to remove the 30 second ban or is there a reason behind waiting 30 seconds? If we do need a control on searches then I say that we be forced to wait 21 seconds between searches.

Patience is a virtue...

Why the need to be trigger happy in the first place? The site will still be here in 30 seconds

It's a server load thing. If everybody starts hammering the server with searches, it will crawl.

I just usually use Google...

The search function is very server intensive, if there was no limit and people could just keep pounding on the server it could be a problem. Though since we moved to a dedicated server it's probably not as big of an issue as it once was.

Thanks for the response Matty. I figured the reason would be something like what you explained though I wasn't entirely sure, as my knowledge of computers and technology is only what I would call above average. Now that I know the reason behind it I can make my peace with the search function. Also, thanks for the tip CPayne. I enjoyed reflecting on that Darnarian McCants thread.
