Pass, no way he'd be worth what it takes to sign him.
The Official Donte Stallworth Pure Speculation ThreadWillH 02-04-2008, 10:56 PM Pass, no way he'd be worth what it takes to sign him. GusFrerotte 02-04-2008, 11:00 PM Draft a young kid that is like 6'4 or 6'5" and have Moss and Randle El mentor him. Stuck in TX 02-04-2008, 11:01 PM Pass, no way he'd be worth what it takes to sign him. I agree... Williams looks tempting an IF we can get a good price we should go after him but I cannot see us giving up a 1-3 round draft pick and unfortunately thats what it will take to get him, CJ, or Moss (God forbid). I know this is mere speculation but its gotta be emphasized that we need to build from the draft. EDIT: we wouldnt have to trade for Moss but he would still be way too expensive dirthogs311 02-04-2008, 11:31 PM He was drafted (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL_draft) by the New Orleans Saints (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Orleans_Saints) with the 13th pick in the first round of the 2002 NFL Draft (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_NFL_Draft). Stallworth caught eight touchdown passes in 2002 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_NFL_season), his rookie year, but saw less action the next season. As a full time starter in 2004 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_NFL_season), he had 767 receiving yards and five touchdowns. In 2005 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_NFL_season), he recorded a career-high 70 receptions for 945 yards with seven touchdowns. On August 28 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_28), 2006 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006), he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles for linebacker Mark Simoneau (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Simoneau) and a conditional fourth round pick in the 2007 Draft. The Eagles made the deal for him because they needed a speed receiver to line up at the X in Andy Reid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Reid)'s version of the West Coast Offense (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Coast_Offense). In Stallworth's first game with the Eagles, less than two weeks after the trade, he caught six passes for 141 yards and a touchdown. Due to a nagging hamstring injury, Stallworth missed three games early in the regular season, but finished the year with 725 yards and five touchdowns. The Philadelphia Inquirer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Philadelphia_Inquirer) reported that Stallworth was in the league substance abuse program. [1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dont%C3%A9_Stallworth#_note-0) Stallworth could face a four game suspension for another positive drug test. On March 11 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_11), 2007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007), Stallworth agreed to terms with the New England Patriots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_England_Patriots) in a reported six-year deal worth $30 million with $3.5 million guaranteed. The contract is incentive laden, meaning that the Patriots could release him if he underperforms for a small fraction of the full contract. He is also reunited with fellow receiver and college teammate Kelley Washington (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelley_Washington), who was also brought into the Patriots via free agency on March (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March) 11 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/11), 2007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007). Hackett? He probably will re-sign in Seattle, but Zorn is obviously familiar with him and he did some good things in the Northwest once he got healthy at the end of the year. skinsfan69 02-05-2008, 01:09 AM NE is very deep at WR and I'd imagine they can't continue to keep guys like Kelly Washington and Chad Jackson. Maybe we can grab one of those guys. I'd stay away from Stallworth. He pulls his hamstrings all the time. That Guy 02-05-2008, 01:28 AM he's a good deep threat, but he's built like a tin can. he'd be a good hire, but only if he's extremely cheap, since he'll only be playing in about 8 games a year. HOGTIMUS PRIME 02-05-2008, 04:28 AM Don't know why we would actually target the guy? Or would want him? He's an underachiever, Moss and El are both much better receivers than Stallworth. Our WR's need a QB who can get them the ball, and an offensive line that will allow that to happen. I guess we still don't understand that we need big, powerful offensive lineman if we are to get better, another WR isn't making a difference, especially if it's Stallworth. freddyg12 02-05-2008, 09:42 AM Stallworth has shown that he's got the talent to play well when healthy, mainly as a deep threat. But he's one of those guys that disappears when things aren't going well. you don't see him making the tough catches inside too much. Not a bad idea to toss out there, but if it came down to stallworth or keeping all the guys we have, I'd opt for the latter simply because he's not enough of an upgrade to offset his price & team chemistry. freddyg12 02-05-2008, 09:46 AM btw, smoot - nice thread title - I hate it when you pose an idea & posters act like you're crazy. "pure speculation" is a good way to put it. |
