Thought you'd be interested in this note from the Denver Post:
Remember when we used to wonder whether Clinton Portis could handle the punishment? Turns out we should have been doing something constructive with our time. Portis not only was great in his two years in Our Town, he was at his best as the game wore on.
Fact: Portis led NFL rushers last season in average yards per carry after their 20th attempts. At 6.6 yards per, he was more than a yard better than LaDainian Tomlinson (5.4) and Jamal Lewis (5.3). ...
My conclusion here is this:
The guy who keeps these kinds of stats needs to find a girlfriend!

Either that, or he already has one of the greatest girlfriends in the history of mankind!

haha. yea he very well could be a lucky lucky guy.
Portis is a beast. hes not going to try anythign special in pre season, hes only going ot play for a drive. we dont need him getting hurt. He'll rip it up in the regular season though.
His career avg of 5.5 ypc is crazy enough. 6.6 after his 20th attempt is insane.

This tells me he has great stamina to go along with his vision and speed. Wow. Let's hope he can stay healthy.

Well, how accurate is the 5.5YPC. Im not overly famillier with Portis, perhaps someone more informed can enlighten my ignorant ass. Does he get good yardage every rush, or is his yardage just boosted because he breaks them for long gains fairly often? Either way I'm happy, and I know he has big play potential. But is the big play where he get's a majority of his YPC yards, or does he often rush for near 5 yards?

he's pretty consistent in terms of his yardage... although he does have the ability for a home run play, he actually likes running through tackles (as long as he sees a hole)

wow, I thought you said he doesNT have the ability for a home run play. I started laughing until I realized I just couldnt read...then the laughter stopped....
I never knew Portis's ability to play the whole game when he was in college, because he didnt do it. Portis's backup at UM was Frank Gore, who averaged over 9 yards per carry as his back up, and was slated to start and be the next best back in the NFL. But he tore his knee, which allowed McGahee to start for a year, then he came back last year and tore his knee again. Poor guy...Hes got so much talent but is always in rehab. It doesnt help him all the other great backs he has to compete with at UM
