Don't know if anyone already posted this but Josh McDaniels just signed a 1 year extension with the Patriots and is no longer available for the Redskins head coaching position - found out watching Comcast Sportsnet after the Caps game tonight - sorry I don't have a link - just passing along info.

From foxsports:
McDaniels staying put
Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will not pursue the Redskins head coaching vacancy, a league source said here. McDaniels has committed to the Patriots for 2008. . . .
Good. I didn't think McDaniels was a realistic candidate anyway.

I was listening to The Opening Drive on Sirius NFL radio this morning, and they said that even though Mariucci interviewed, that Fassel was still the lead guy. How they know this is beyond me, but I hope that isn't the case.

pure speculation on their part
The Larry and Bram show is reporting that he gets his "official" interview on Sunday

I think it's going to be a neck and neck race down to the end between Fassel And Mooch. Kind of reminds me of the movie, "Talladega Nights". I can picture them running and diving toward the finish line. ;)

i think our opening is the best HC opportunity this year (team talent, willingness to spend, etc), but it wasn't perfect (coordinators in place, lds looking for either a big name or a guy that'll let him call the shots).
mcdaniels probably knew he'd get an interview, but not an offer, and it seems that everyone thinks turning down interviews is much better than taking the shot and getting turned down.

Daniel Snyder was interviewed with Darrell Green on the NFL Network after the HOF announcements. He carefully avoided/deflected questions about Mariucci and the head coach announcement by saying he was going to consult the Skins’ new HOF players (while putting his arm around Green).
Green gave Snyder props a couple of times during the show. Here’s hoping he knows something about Snyder’s plans and has been able to give him some advice and direction….
