JLC Redskin Insider: Zorn speaks about working with JC

Zorn Speaks

From Jason Reid: Just got off the phone with new Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Jim Zorn, who said he's excited about the potential of young quarterback Jason Campbell and eager to get started. As for who will be the Redskins' next head coach, Zorn said he's eager to find out as well.
"The quarterback situation is one of the reasons that I want to be there and work with Jason," said Zorn, who formerly coached the Seattle Seahawks' quarterbacks. "Focusing in on the QB is important to me. Now, I'll have the opportunity to focus on the entire offense as well as the QB, so I'm excited about that."
Zorn said he didn't want to discuss the Redskins' search for a head coach because "I really don't know what's going to happen there." With assistant head coach-defense Gregg Williams expected to leave the organization because he is no longer under consideration to replace Joe Gibbs, Jim Fassel and New York Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo are believed to be the remaining candidates.
"I've heard a lot of names out there too," Zorn said. "I've heard some more than others. ... The main thing for me is that I think the Redskins are in really good shape. I think it's a great football team. I'm really looking forward to this."

Zorn has too much to do now running the offense. No time to coach QBs

Zorn just might be the QB coach also......as it appears

Saunders' fate was sealed when Zorn, the Seattle Seahawks (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/sea/;_ylt=A9G_bxr735tHVKgAPAAdsLYF) quarterback coach since 2001, agreed to a three-year deal Friday. Zorn will also coach the quarterbacks, making Lazor's job redundant.

Redskins fire 2 assistants, promote Blache; head coach still TBA - NFL - Yahoo! Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=A9G_bx153ZtH1xIBjABDubYF?slug=ap-redskins-coachingsearch&prov=ap&type=lgns)

Too bad about Lazor, I would have liked it if he had stayed. Maybe they'll bump Brunell up to QB coach :)

Yeah another stupid move by a stupid owner.

Wow, very interesting on Zorn. I wish he would delegate the responsibility. But he has been given control of the offense so he's entitled to do what he wants I suppose.

I feel bad for Lazor because he seemed like a good guy and you don't like to see people get fired, especially those who don't likely have others knocking down their doors. I mean, I suspect he's not in high demand. But it's premature to call it a stupid move by a stupid owner

Agreed that it's premature to call this dumb. Zorn is fantastic with QBs, and we don't want Campbell getting mixed messages. What if Lazor was coaching him up one way last year and changed his approach suddenly when Zorn took over? Not good for rapport with JC. Zorn is a QB guru (GTripp?) in line for an OC job. So now he's both.

I do feel badly for Lazor, but he'll figure it out. He's still very young.

Zorn has certainly done a fine job in Seattle with Matt H. I think this will be good for JC to work with an Ex-NFL QB, the experience is priceless.

Zorn does have alot more responsibilities in his role as OC/QB coach. He has a full plate. We will see how he makes out.

Bill Lazor seemed to be a fine young coach, just not so sure he was the right guy for the job as our QB coach, just due to lack of experience (I know you have to get it some where, I just had the feeling he was in over his head). Hopefully he will find work.

I hate to be negative but the growth of our QB is crucial. And I am almost 100 percent sure that is why they hired Jim Zorn as their offense coordinator.

Sounds like Lazor isn't out yet, might just be up to the next HC? That might be the only coaching decision he makes.....

The person said Al Saunders' son, offensive assistant Bob Saunders, will not return next season. Less certain was the future of quarterbacks coach Bill Lazor. After initially deciding that Lazor will not be back next season, the Redskins (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/team/67062) instead will leave his fate to the new head coach

FOX Sports on MSN - NFL - Redskins fire Williams, Saunders; Blache promoted (http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7723090/Redskins-fire-Williams,-Saunders;-Blache-promoted)

Damn! Damn! Damn! Not Bob Saunders. Nooooo!!! That's it, Goodell needs to fold this franchise right now!!! ;)

Seriously though, thanks for the update on Lazor. That's very interesting

My other question is this. If the leading candidate is Fassel and they are waiting to contact Spagnoulo how will they fit the systems? When Fassel was in NY was their offense a WC style or will there be friction between Fassel and Zorn about style and play calling? If the HC is Spagnoulo he is a defensive minded coach, is his style similar to Blache's or are they going to blend their schemes? Unless the HC is simply going to be a figure head (Fassel) then I can't see Spagnoulo coming to the Skins unless his ideas are similar to Blache's.
