From today's Washington Post
washingtonpost.com - nation, world, technology and Washington area news and headlines (http://washingtonpost.com)
"Snyder and Vinny Cerrato, the team's executive vice president for football operations, spent Monday and Tuesday attempting to contact and interview assistant coaches Fassel wanted -- league sources said they included Baltimore's Rex Ryan, Seattle's Jim Zorn and San Diego's John Ramsdell -- but contractual stipulations precluded all but Zorn from interviewing."
I hope this puts to rest the notion that they are going after assistant coaches without the potential head coach's consent. Although it's interesting to note that the other day the Post also indicated Zorn was wanted by Williams.
I don't know why they even bothered talking to the Chargers. Norv isn't going to do the Redskins any favors.
Thanks for putting that issue to rest. Though I'm sure we'll still hear it from those that refuse to believe that Snyder has any clue as to what he's doing.
skinsguy 01-25-2008, 04:15 PM Does anybody know the longest wait or the latest an NFL team has had to wait before they hired a head coach?

what is your opinion of this frachise? Do you think its making the right decision by dragging this one? Do you feel that this move is alienating the players, coaches, and Gibbs since he has been giving support for GW?
To me, this is the most important hiring Snyder has ever had, and I think he is messing it up, which i dont think I am alone.

Its hard to say that he's messed it up when he still hasn't even done anything. I think he's just covering all his bases and making sure he doesn't rush in to this decision.
Like you said, it is his most important hire. Well, he hasn't made it yet, so we can't judge him on it. You can't mess something up before you even do it.
I think thats what most fans are thinking....even though he hasn't done anything, they still think he's going to mess it up.

Redskins_P 01-25-2008, 05:02 PM I think the fact that he alledgedly hasn't said a word to Williams in a week is why people feel that he's already messing up.
He allegedly hasn't said a word. None of us know if thats true or not. Not even the person that reported it.
#56fanatic 01-25-2008, 05:07 PM in a lot of peoples eyes he has all ready messed things up. I know people say he is covering his bases, but seriously. According to some new sources, which I will find dont worry, Jim Mora Jr had the job if he wanted it, Fassell had the job if they could have gotten the assistance nailed down. Some people out here seem to think that the reporters who cover this team from inside the locker room and outside dont really know what they are talking about. Even the insiders on ESPN who generally get the info pretty dead on more often than not seem to feel and hear that Snyder is screwing this thing up. That GW may not even take the job now, and Fassell may walk away too after what transpired the last couple of days. I for one will generally listen to the people who cover these guys for a living and know more than all of us here combined.
Plus, I have a friend who is a state trooper in louden county who does detail for the team and keeps in touch with some guys on the team, and he says they are none to happy about whats going on. saying the majority of the team is set on GW as the coach and think its incredibly stupid how this has dragged on.
Giantone 01-25-2008, 05:13 PM Does anybody know the longest wait or the latest an NFL team has had to wait before they hired a head coach?
I thought Parcells leaving the Giants happen in April about 2 weeks after the Giants let B.B.(sp) go to Cleveland.
Redskins_P 01-25-2008, 05:17 PM That GW may not even take the job now
How do we know if GW was or wasn't offered the job already? How do we know if GW is asking for more than what Snyder is offering him?
Maybe Snyder offered him the HC job, but GW is asking for more?
Look, in no way am I trying to defend Snyder. I wish we could just hire GW and get this all over with, but the fact is that we have NO CLUE whats going on behind those closed doors.
12thMan 01-25-2008, 05:23 PM I think Snyder actually does care what the fans think, but he shouldn't. I think, having grown up a fan himself, he thinks "Oh the fans will love it if I make this big move and we bring home a Super Bowl this year." But sometimes, you just have to accept that things take time. It's sort of like that saying "Buy a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he'll eat for life."
Snyder needs to remember he's more than just a fan now, and he needs to stop trying to make the impulsive moves to instantly gratifying his fan base. I believe that he is heading in that direction. Now, of course, a lot of the fans are up in arms over this. But f' them. If it gets you so worked up that you're going to cancel your season tickets, sell all your memorabilia, never watch another game and so on just because of speculation...then just do it already. Enough with the empty threats. Just leave.
Smooty, come on. Why go there and just throw your hands up and tell fans to just leave? That's not fair. People are frustrated and madder than hell. I think Snyder should care about what the fans think. After all, many of them were in place to support his beloved franchise decades before he even thought about football. I'll go a step further, yes, the fans should also influence, to some extent, how decisions being made impacts the franchise too. Should every decision made by Snyder have the fans in mind? Of course not, let's be real here. It's a business...but that's a two way street. You can't say on one hand I want to build a quality franchise, but on the other hand consistently rub the fan base the wrong way.
I happen to think he's responding more impulsively now than when he first began the coaching search. While he probably didn't care at all at the beginning of the search, I think it's quite possible that he is now paying some attention, proabably too much, to the outrage by the fan base.
