Today Washington D.C. Mayor Andrian Fenty announced that he has submitted a written proposal to get the Redskins back in D.C.

He wants the team to play in a re-built RFK stadium.

The article will probably appear in tomorrow's Washington Post.

Can the re-built RFK be built to the same specs as Qwest Field? I'd like to see the team back in the District, though I must say that I worry when cities like D.C., with so many pressing needs, subsidize billionaire owners with lavish stadium/infrastructure deals. I'm very skeptical that such moves ever work out in the favor of anyone other than the owners (and maybe the politicians who get good publicity from it). But I'm no economist ... If Jim Schwartz were the coach he'd know the answer.

Well when you have 65,000 people coming to your city to spend money it should be good for everyone. Times that by 10 (yes thats 2 playoff games at home "Go Fassell" had to say that) thats 650,000 people spending on transportation, rooms , food, beer, etc... It might not pay off right away with the extra tax money coming in but it will in time and become an assest not a liability.

12th Man - I would think it would be more cost efficient to build a completely new stadium right next to RFK from the ground up considering Synder is going to want the biggest attendence stadium in the NFL and the Cowboys will be at 100,000 when their new stadium is completed - there is no way you could make RFK that big, so wouldn't they just build an entire new stadium with a portable roof so they could have the largest attendence and also have the ability to host a Super Bowl too?

If you're familiar with the D.C. area, they want to either put the stadium near Florida Avenue area or rebuild the old one.

I realize that is the argument, I just don't know that I buy it. I'd like to see some kind of study of other stadium deals costs/revenues in other cities.
