I don't like the hire but the west offense could be beneficial to our player's styles. We have fast wideouts (YAC), an elite tightend (possession) and a heck of a pair running backs. West Coast Offense is designed for high-percentage passes which improves the QB passer rating. It also calls for th qb to get rid of the ball quickly and if everything is covered then the qb can take off which should benefit Campbell. This hire can work out in the end. Portis need to work on his route running and his hands since he will see his share of passes out of the back field. Please God let this system work for us.

Do you think Campbell is a west coast QB? I certainly do not.

I think Campbell could be a west coast quarterback. I must admit, his intermediate range needs some work, but I would like to see us work on an hybrid west coast offense that takes the occassional shot.

I don't think campbell is a west coast qb. I think we'll be taking a huge step back. I see campbell thriving in a power run offense working well with his mobility, a la rothlesburger, elway, etc...

his strengths are mobility, long ball, keeping the play alive. those things are minimalized by a west coast approach. his weaknesses are the short/intermediate passes and quick reads, which are utilized exclusively in the west coast... not looking too good IMO...

Nice find. I remember that game well, I had just forgotten that they ran such an effective WCO that season. Auburn got robbed by the BCS of a title that year at 13-0. That was the final year of the Zook regime for my Gators...

Good call, but I am not sure being able to do it in College means you can do it in the pros. JC's two biggest problems this season IMO were his short-intermediate throws and his inability to get rid of the ball quickly. That doesnt support a claim that he is currently compatible w/ a WCO, but those do seem like things that can be learned. I say he'll be able to adjust, but after how long? I guess we'll see.

Damn, not only did you beat me to the punch, you cited sources. Anyway I'm not to worried about the Fassal hiring anymore, so long as we can get Ryan or Swartz to coach the defense. Of course somehow convincing Williams to swallow his pride and continue to coach the defense would be optimal.

That was college. JC IS NOT a West Coast type of QB. He is a pure pocket guy with good mobility. He is best suited for the style of offense that Al ran in KC. The offense that was ran in Balt. was just awful. All short little dump offs to Heep. It was too painful to watch. But I'm sure Fassel will adjust. He had Kerry Collins.

If Saunders and his system is out, anyone honestly expect Collins to be able to beat out Campbell?

If anything, a new system would solidify JC's spot as the #1 QB. Todd Collins was only valuable to us because he could run the Saunders offense with his eyes closed. Jason is a good learner, hard worker and MUCH more of a gifted athlete than Collins.

Heck, without Saunders, Brunell has a chance of beating out Collins.

I think a West Coast offense would suit Campbell well. He's not a "pure pocket passer" and is great on the run, so those moving pockets and rollouts would be great for him. Also, it would be great for Cooley and Portis on those short passes, plus now we have more then one capable WR with Moss, ARE, McCardell, Caldwell and probably Mix next year.

I think it would be a big upgrade. Saunders' "genius" never seemed to show up for us.
