This is very troubling to me. I really feel that this could make it hard for me to follow the team with such a die hard passion.

Even if Fassel wins it all next year, there will still be that bitter taste hanging around.
Help me understand this one.. Are you related to GW?

Overreact much?

If we get Fassel (which is basically a lock at this point) and Ryan, we are in no worse shape than if we kept GW and hired a new OC to replace Saunders.. The only true way to maintain 'continuity' would be if Gibbs never left. For all that we thought GW may keep the same, we truly have no idea what his plans were. Maybe he wanted to move training camp to Calabasas, CA. Maybe he wanted to switch to a 3-3-5 defense. Maybe he wants to hire Mike Martz away from SF to be the OC.. We have no clue but we're automatically sold on him because he 'maintains continuity'?

As I posted earlier, Pittsburgh changed head coach and OC and made the playoffs.. SD changed head coach, OC and DC and made the playoffs.. Dallas changed head coach, OC and DC and made the playoffs.. In the playoffs NYG, SD, Indy & Sea all had coaches who had previously led another team to the playoffs.. The 2 Super Bowl coaches are 'retreads' that I'm sure were not warmly embraced by their fan bases upon hire..

Let's take the 'post loss' stance when it comes to posting.. Take a few deep breaths, a walk around the house and use logic rather than emotion..

Excellent post. That's a very good perspective. I totally agree, as I just posted about an hour ago, that Gregg could have had a totally different view of the team's future than Danny/Vinny expected.

Choosing Fassel would be a huge mistake. Just when you think Dan Snyder might catch a clue, this bullshi* happens.

Fassel is qualified as a HC and is not a bad choice. HOWEVER what really bothered me about him was his last year in NY he totally lost the team. They just quit on the guy.

What about what went down in Buffalo that same season? The Bills quit on GW too.

Which is why I think it is significant that the players are so solidly behind him this time around. Clearly he has refined his message.

Is Fassel the best Dan can get? We have better if not the same coaches on staff now. If this goes down I really think I am going to be sick. Dan please sell this team!!!!! With Gibbs the last 4 years we had a chance but with Fassel I think it is really a bad way to go. I am sick of starting all over with new O and D's. What will this do to Campbell? Dan is just killing me taking a 56 year old guy out of coaching and leting him have the keys to the kingdom! Sell Dan before you kill us all!!!!!!

Well it appears there will be a clear delineation between the front office and coach with Vinny Cerrato's promotion and clearly defined role. Exactly what Redskins fans have been bitching about for years, to have a separation of "church and state."

What will it do for Campbell? Well considering what Fassel has done with past QBs and how Campbell has done in an offense similar to Fassel's it might actually benefit him (and Portis, and Moss, and El)

But hey, why be rational about it? No, that wouldn't make any sense. No it's a lot better to flip out and write ifrational, idiotic posts.

First off I am not a Vinny fan...I saw first hand his work in SF and it was not good and now he is going to run the show even more. 49er fans were OVER joyed to see him go! As for Fassel I really can't see him being this God sent because if he was he would be coaching some where else. Just another old timer looking for that last big payday from Danny! As for flipping out I just don't see this[Fassle] as the next Super Bowl winning coach for the Redskins. You must and time will tell if you are right.

You know, those who question why there would be despair at the thought of Gggrilliamsss not getting the nod should think back to the time the "has the game passed Gibbs by" talk began among fans and sports journos.

Looking back now, what we have perspective on is that what Joe restored was a sense of stability, continuity, and perhaps most importantly, an atmosphere where the players believed that the team was headed in the right direction.

It also seemed that some of "The Gibbs" rubbed off on "The Danny" and what Fossil/Ryan represents is a scary regression there.

Passing by Gggrilliams sends a clear message that Snyder honors whatever his lawyers say he has to by the letter of his contracts, not necessary the spirit of his agreements, much less what's the "right" thing to do. It also sends a message that he knows better than the players and isn't really interested in what they think -- they'll play for who the hell he tells them to play for. I'm getting Lavernues Coles flashbacks here, people.

Considering the degree to which this team came together at the end of last year after a horrible tragedy, it just seems so callous to throw that all aside and basically break with everything there for what smacks of some kind of nepotism or Old Boy Network mentality.

If this happens, it seems pretty clear that Snyder really hasn't learned much from Joe, and maybe he wasn't really listening at all while Joe was here anyway.
