If the day of is too soon then yes. But funny. QBall 01-22-2008, 10:43 AM Giants win here in a slug fest. High scoring game with turnovers and big plays. Go NFC EAST!! coggs 01-22-2008, 10:43 AM GMScud, I just went onto Pro Football Talk's website and read about Tom Brady. They had a picture from PageSix.com and you can clearly see the boot. Also, there was a video from TMZ.com and Brady's got a noticeable limp. Could be very interesting for the Super Bowl. I wouldn't be surprised if he put that on as a gag, hoping a photographer would see him and a story would be made of nothing. As for the game. 5 keys for the Giants 1) Limit the YAC. The secondary did a great job tackling, need it again. Obviously the 90 yard play was not an example of good tackling. 2) pressure Brady-easier said than done. They have a great OLine and their backs know how to pick up blitzes. 3) Eli has not only played well the past 4 3/4 games, but he has gotten better each game. Needs to keep it up. 4) Receivers need to catch the damn ball. Can't have the drops. 5) Run the ball. When they have an equal balance of runs and passes, they win. When they try to do too much of one, they lose. MTK 01-22-2008, 10:46 AM LOL can a 18-0 team win another one?? Jeez I don't know. Rajmahal33 01-22-2008, 11:01 AM Can they? Absolutely Will they? Probably By the spread? Highly Doubtful if they do in fact put it at 14 or 15 Also, I have to say that I am very relieved with this matchup b/c I would have hated to have to endure the speculation and hype of a GB-NE matchup. As most ppl would agree, the bye week before the superbowl is THE worst week of the year in terms of football. Every negative element of football is magnified during this week...Media hype and manufacturing of story lines, rampant injury speculation, off the field issues, selling out/corporatization of the sport, trash talking, etc. With this matchup of NY vs NE, as opposed to a potential GB vs NE matchup, much of the possible hype has been quelled b/c many ppl have already written off the Giants. Also we have seen this matchup very recently and though it was close, it still yielded the outcome that everyone predicted. The only big manufacturable storyline is the Manning family one (Eli instead of Peyton, etc) and it is one that I can deal with. Also you have the pursuit of perfection angle but as long as NE was in it, this was unavoidable. Could you imagine having to go through the media frenzy giving us up-to-the-minute coverage of the Favre vs Brady duel (old school vs new school, who is better?), passing of the proverbial QB torch, Superbowl XXXI rematch, America's team debate, and whatever other story anyone with a press pass could concoct? firstdown 01-22-2008, 11:15 AM The Pats can (and will) defeat the Gmen unless Brady is knocked from the game. IMO the only chance NY has is to target Brady early on and put him on a stretcher (even if it leads to one or two blown coverages that yield TD's for NE). Fortunately, the Gmen have arguably the best shot of all 31 teams to do this because their d-line is so dominant. Your right the Giants are the best shot of the 31 teams to beat them in the SB. They are also the only team with a shot to beat them in the SB. killromo 01-22-2008, 11:34 AM As the roomate of an asshole giants fan I am positive they are going to win. Only so that my misery is exponentially greater as I watch the super bowl with him and he jumps around screaming. The only positive is that they will be underdogs so that i can bet on them and at least get paid for my potential misery. Or best case scenario they cover the spread and still lose the game! skinsfan69 01-22-2008, 11:48 AM Here's something I don't think anyone has even consider bringing up - Can the Patriots beat the Giants? I know I'll get responses that the Patriots will adjust and do what they have to to win, but the Giants are hot and they played the Patriots very well at the end of the season. Everyone is sleeping on the Giants. The Patriots have played well (very well at times) this season, but the last few weeks of the season and into the playoffs, they didn't dominate like early on. I think the Super Bowl is going to be a great game. Will the Patriots make history by going 19-0 or will the Giants make history beating the Patriots? I think the Patriots can go undefeated, but I'll also contradict myself and say the Giants have a tremendous chance to beat the Patriots. Just my opinion. Anyone else have any thoughts? My thoughts are this thread stinks. MPNRedskins 01-22-2008, 06:11 PM This post is all over the place. First you say no one is considering can the Patriots win, then you say everyone is sleeping on the Giants. Then you say you think the Patriots can win, then you say but hey it could be the Giants. So what exactly are you saying? It's like reading a post written by Herschel Walker (too soon?) All I'm trying to point out is everyone thinks the Patriots are going to steam roll over the Giants. I was just throwing different things out there. It's not a "Hershel Walker" thing. When I say everyone is sleeping on the Giants, I mean no one is giving them a real chance. I do believe the Patriots will win, however I wouldn't be surprised if the Giants won with the way they have been playing lately. They have been playing better than the Patriots and Eli has been playing better than Brady. All in all, it's going to be a great game. Is that good enough for ya, SmootSmack? |
