I believe Torrence cost 1.155 per year if we had renewed his option
Was not the best cover man in town

Ok, found this on Extremeskins.com. I answered it, and got no feed back. They take this as fact, and from what I can see they trust this guy.
I responded by questioning, why would the Redskins cut Liegh now. They are signing every bum, out there and they are going to cut, a young speed demon, prospect, that they relied on heavely at the end of the year. Unless he told Snyder to go F*** himself, I dont see that happening. What do you all think. I picked Liegh, because unlike the other stuff, it makes absolutly no sense. here it is:

I know, I know, this is from the ESPN boards http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/images/smilies/doh.gif , but this poster is actually (one of the precious few) reliables still over there.

Take it FWIW:

Ok so this is what my source just told me...I was on the phone for about 30 mins and this is everything I was told.

*First things first Gregg Williams is expected to be annouced as HC on Monday(ish) or sometime next week

...

*I asked about Saunders...and was told that was a 50/50...Gregg was unhappy with alot of the play calling last season so he may want to fix things offensively...

*As for the Defense: Expect most of the players to stay...Macklin will most likely be released and Leigh Torrence may as well...

*This came as a shock to me but Springs will probably still be here next season because I was told that the outlook on Carlos Rogers was not good...Trainers are not optimistic on him coming back next season because he has lost so much muscle in his legs from the surgery and he is still limping around quite abit...

...

*Another big surprise I was told was that Jon Jansen may be released...this is not 100% but thats what the feeling is right now because of his big price tag

*The last thing I was told is that Gregg Williams will push for a CB in the 1st round

***Oh and for the newbies on this board who question if I have a source just ask the other board members on here who have done the same and got embarrassed when the info I reported actually was true...

Well, that would make this rumor, more believable to me, but how in the hell would torrence get(undrafted free agent) get a contract like that. Although, when I look at the Warpath cap sheets, it looks like he has a minimum contract.

IMO you build along the lines before drafting little guys. Good pass rush= good pass defense.

I agree 69, unfortunately Williams does not. He sees the LB's and DB's as the key to defenses, with multiple blitz packages able to make up for a weak pass rush. While his schemes seemingly work (the man consistently has his defenses ranked top 10 in the leauge, and this goes back to his days in Buffalo), there is one major weakness: turnovers. Pass rushers=turnovers, both QB fumbles and INTs. Historically, Williams' defenses have been unable to produce turnovers proportional to the defensive ranking.

I think the best case scenario would be for someone in the FO to overule Williams (am I actually suggesting this?) and draft (or sign) a nasty pass rusher.

That contract dollar amount IS NOT per year it was a 3 year deal,
3 years/$1.162M/$7K LTBE in 2007.

His base salary for 08 would we $445,000. With 0 release fee monies. IMO its HIGHLY debatable if LT is even worth that.

Well, I disagree, that he is not worth that. He was very good on special teams and improved every game. If the Redskins keep him though pre season and release him if he does not make the team, he stills cost nothing against the cap.

Outside of Chris Long (who will not be available) how many game changing DE's will be available at #21? Gholston is small and could very well end up as a 3-4 OLB, same with Harvey. Campbell is bigger and a definite possibility, though I'm not familiar with his technique and I wonder whether I guy with that kind of frame will move up the draft board if he impresses in post-season workouts. It's all a crap shoot until we get to the Senior Bowl and combine anyway.

Point being, Jared Allen (who is too expensive and won't be available) and Justin Smith (who probably will be and might be cheaper than he would be otherwise given down production last year) are available in FA. If they could get Justin Smith he would provide a solid player against the run who can also get to the passer. Then they could target a CB at #21.

Leigh did play pretty horribly in coverage last year, but I'd be surprised if he didn't at least make it to camp.

Somehow i doubt we're gona just flat out release jansen. Isn't he signed through next season? Anyway, if he is then i think a trade would def make sense, we could probably get a 4th or 5th rounder for him.

He's signed through 2011. He's got a big cap number next year ($8+ mil) and a higher release fee ($10+ mil). Though I'm no expert, I suspect that it would make much more sense to restructure his deal and kick the can down the road.

The part about Jansen doesn't make sense. His contract would eat up more salary cap space in 2008 if we cut him than if we keep him on the roster. The only way we could afford this is if we were to hold on to Lloyd.

Here's a good math question: how many beers over what period of time does one have to consume before Brandon Lloyd becomes a better football player than Jon Jansen? Also, how long does that person have to live?

we need pass rush and the DB's will play much better. i think the only way we draft a cb in 1st is if talib is on the board at 21. other than that we get the best pass rusher available and then start to look for a playmaking wr and oline
