MORA WITHDRAWS NAME FROM D.C. COACH SEARCH
Adam Schefter of NFL (http://www.profootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm#) Network reports that Seahawks assistant coach Jim Mora has withdrawn his name from consideration for the vacant head-coaching position with the Washington Redskins.
Mora, who coached the Falcons to a 27-23 record in three seasons with the team, widely is regarded as the hand-picked candidate to succeed Mike Holmgren in Seattle once Holmgren retires. Today's development could mean that Holmgre, 60, has decided to retire now. Alternatively, it could be that Mora has received a Jim Caldwell-style style promise that, upon Holmgren's retirement (whenever it may happen) Mora will take over.
Under the Rooney Rule, it's permissible for a team to have an advance agreement with an assistant coach to become the head coach at some specific point in the future. As NFL spokesman Greg Aiello confirmed to us by e-mail on Friday afternoon, such a commitment does not constitute a violation of the rule, if the promise is contained in the assistant coach's contract.
Best news I've heard all day...now lets hear about a Redskins Press Conference announcing Williams as coach
Redskins_P 01-18-2008, 04:20 PM I don't need links I believe what you are saying. The only reason I even ask is because I keep hearing people saying that the players back him but I personaly had only seen a couple. I was just curious if it was true or something that just keeps getting repeated on here like fact.
Understood. Trust me, I've heard more than "a couple" of players backing him. But like I said, it was on TV interviews.
firstdown 01-18-2008, 04:21 PM Well now we can say we know something about whats going on.

I guess this means Mora will fulfill his radio announcement that he wanted to coach Washington (Seattle). He just couldn't remember that it was da-haux when he said it!

Jim Mora Withdraws
Just got off the phone with Bob Lamonte, Jim Mora's agent. Jim Mora has withdrawn from the Redskins job citing family concerns.

If this is true, its great news. Also looked like he was going to get our damn coaching spot if he didn't pull out. Greg Williams has to be riding the Snyder roller coaster ready to puke!!

I've heard several flat out say they want Williams to be the next coach. Phillip Daniels all but said, if he isn't the organization is making a mistake. But yeah, it's more than a couple here and there.

At the very least, I've seen quotes supporting Williams from Sellers, ARE, Daniels, Jason Campbell, Fletcher. And I'm sure just about every other guy on D feels the same way.
